Rank Progression

The intent here is to start at Rank 1 or 2, freshly empowered, and then gain ranks over time as the powers grow.

However, starting rank is open. We will start at Rank 1 and leave everything to the player (within the limits of the game constraints).

I'll update this thread as we advance through the power ranks.

Squad Leader

The designated Squad Leader will have the option of mixing in some Tactics picks with his power picks. The party can pick a Squad Leader, or I can assign one, but you should have one. This is the person that can call for Team Maneuvers to be used. Also, when gaining a rank, this person may mix in some Tactics Powers.

The only requirement for Squad Leader is that he or she take their next trait as Extra Occupation: Leader.

Manage Expectations

Folks, I'm not expecting you to be able to do a lot at Rank 1. It will be rank 3 or 4 before your powers are up to the typical Super hero level.

The breakdown seems to be as follows, based on the examples from the rulebook:

Rank 1:
Lightly Trained and untrained normals: Soldiers, Police, Goons, etc.

Rank 2:
Mostly well to highly trained normals: Daredevil is an outlier here, as he has a minor super power. Hawkeye, some high end Shield Agents, etc.

Rank 3:
Some very Highly trained normals, such as Black Widow, but mostly this is when it starts being about powers rather than training.

Rank 4:
More experienced powered sorts that have mastered their powers. Also those that are just more powerful. Shang-Chi (without the rings) is the outlier here, as he's all training.

Rank 5:
The really powerful sorts, hopefully with some skill, but not always. Near Hulk level sorts, master mages, Asgardian Royals, etc

Rank 6:
The Cosmic and interdimensional beings and others: Dormammu, Doctor Strange, Captain Marvel, probably the Silver Surfer and Adam Warlock, the actual Hulk, Omega level mutants, etc.

So if you're not where you envision for your character at rank 1, well, you really shouldn't be. You'll get there.

Progession Speed

My current thinking on rank progression is for the party to do a number of missions equal to character rank then advancing to the next rank.

With potentials replacements of dead characters and potential new players. This will make catching up a bit easier, plus it should reflect a rapid early growth of powers that slow down over time, to be replaced by learning how to use them rather than the earlier growth of raw power.
