Scene 2, part 2: Once again in the Forest of Bron
If I understand the rules, Larson succeeded ...
Using the axe was probably not a wise man's move but Rorn figures it will give him the edge he needs to get out of the pit successfully. Hoisted up again, he tugs on the rope coil to make sure it is secure and then slowly stands up on Larson's shoulders.
"Hold steady big fella," he calls down and then drives the axe into the lip of the earthen pit. Hopefully this will do the trick ....
Rolled a 5 versus a target of 7+1 = 8, hooray :)
11:11, Today: Rorn rolled 5 using 2d6. Rorn skill roll to reach edge of pit with extended hands, and axe.
"Gal if I fall again you better catch me!!" Rorn called down. Keeping his balance, he pulled the axe out and then reversed it so it would act like a hook. Ignoring the treacherous branch that had betrayed him last time, the youngster instead swung out towards a mess of brambles.
Yes, he might get a dozen thorns biting his hands but at least the stems are thick, almost like rope themselves. He pulled with the axe then grabbed a handful of spiky plant and heaved himself up ...
Rats, looks like a fail .. 9 vs a target of 7-3+1 = 5. Booo!
11:16, Today: Rorn rolled 9 using 2d6. Rorn skill roll to lift out of pit, using axe.
