Chinilaya - Electrostatic Cannon

Calling on his collage years for electrical engineer, Captain Justice analysts the electronics for the nuclear bomb. Looking for something he can do to save the people in the area.

OOC:
I'll roll Electrical Engineer to figure out how the electronics of the bomb work and see if there is something I can pull out to disable it.

08:33, Today: Captain Justice rolled 25 using 1d100 with rolls of 25.  Electrical Engineer roll to understand the nuke's electronics . –

My Electrical Engineer is at 65%

If there is nothing I can pull out to disable it, can I pull the whole bomb out without causing it to explode?

Yeah, well, you look like a jackass I once chased off.  He sniff the air.  You kinda smell like one, too.
CMZ begins walking straight towards the men firing at him.  This time, instead of hitting soft skin and hair then falling to the ground with all their energy gone, the bullets now ricochet freely off his nearly rock-hard muscles and endanger anyone who might get close to him.  Such as Mr Magnum's men.....

Captain Justice figures out he can disconnect a single power cable and remove the source (which is, in fact, a bomb). One of the mercenaries suddenly opines, "that there is your basic air burst weapon; it's designed to blow planes around. If'n that sucker blows here, we're all toast."
Firing at Chimp Man Z and slowly destroying his vulnerable clothing, Mr. Magnum strides forward. His face is scarlet and expresses nothing but anger as he shouts "FINE! MONKEY GOT A SHAVE! I'M STILL GONNA CAP YOUR #$$!"

Captain Justice disconnects the power cable from the bomb. Then he picks up the bomb and starts flying straight up as gast as he can. Determining that distance from the ground in the best way to prevent needless deaths. And future deaths from radioactive fallout.

After tossing a few shots his way, the colonel continues, "Harris is still using that force field. While he's got that going we're wasting ammo on him. Let's see how well you guys were listening. SQUAD! FOCUS SECONDARIES!"

As Chimp Man Z runs up to Mr. Magnum most of the men with the major begin to retreat. Major Harris tosses away the machine gun he was using and pulls a small detonator from a pocket. Grinning he tosses the detonator out in front of his men and says, "If anything happens to that, the bomb your friend is running off with explodes. I'm betting that would even take out you, mutie! So, what you gonna do, punch me or protect that button?"
"And you bunch of wusses can stop shooting at my freakin' cannon and push that button. The one that manages to do so gets to live."

As Chimp Man Z stalks forward, Mr. Magnum leaps up to a tree branch that happens to be five feet above his head. Catching the branch in one hand, he hooks his knees over the branch and fires his energy pistol while he hangs upside down. The energy beam hits the tree and punches through causing an explosion of splinter flying from the hole on the other side of the trunk. This display is enough and the formerly fleeing soldiers turn back and rush to reach the button.

In reply to Captain Justice (msg # 25):

<< Intro From: Chinilaya - Security Barracks >>

Though Captain Justice could not see her Psi-Bird arrived at his side... in her Astral Form gliding up to lightly touch his cheek though neither she nor he could actually feel the contact...

Though Captain Justice cannot see or feel anything different... goose-bumps come to him and though high in the sky a presence... that he is not alone ... tickles at the edge of his perception...

Reaching out with her mind Psi-Bird touched Captain Justice's mind with her Telepathy gently...
[Telepathy - 4ISP Cost]

She speaks to Arnold's mind only communication no probing his memories... lightly touching his surface thoughts enough to be understood and be heard... her presence fill his awareness...

Focusing her mind Psi-Bird attunes her thoughts with the bomb... feeling the resonance and cyberscape of it's electrical pathways... her consciousness subsuming the electrical patterns ~ in effect she becomes the bomb!
[Machine Ghost - 12ISP Cost]

She begins to probe its systems and data... she suspects the bomb has no deactivation that can be done manually... but she probes every component and seeks how to dismantle the power systems the timer and looks for all the failsafes and detonation traps she suspects are there for the unwary to trigger as well as the remote detonator signal receiver... which will be the first thing she will instruct Arnold to disable.

...As she works her own thoughts swirl...
Bill: Pai Mei taught you the five point palm-exploding heart technique?
The Bride: Of course he did.
Bill: Why didn't you tell me?
The Bride: I don't know... because I'm a bad person.

... and she spends a little extra effort to Total Recall the construction of the nuclear device {"Never know when knowing how to assemble or disassemble a Nuke could be useful... I guess.. I'm not a nice person either..."}
[Total Recall - 3ISP Cost/per specific block of info 'Nuclear Device Construction & Disassembly']

Actions: 5 / 1 remain
Astral Project to Captain Justice - 1 action
Telepathy with Captain Justice - 1 Action [4 ISP]
Machine Ghost - 1 Action [12 ISP]
Total Recall - 1 action [3 ISP/per specific block of info 'Nuclear Device Construction & Disassembly']

Running Effects:
- Psi-Sword [23min]
- Psi-Shield [35min]
- Super TK [8min]
- Astral Projection [5min]
- Telepathy [8min]
- Machine Ghost [12min]

ISP Total: 177/ 78

GM Questions:
1. Does the bomb have a manual disarm?
2. If no manual disarm - determine disassemble for any internal 'tamper-proof' booby-trap triggers
3. Determine needed disassemble for Remote Detonator - Radio Receiver
4. Determine disassemble for Timer Detonator and how much time left on timer?
5. Determine dissemble for power source
6. Determine disassemble for removal of Plutonium core

Psi Bird connects to Captain Justice's mind and finds it working overtime to save everyone. He is surprisingly calm for someone that thinks that they are about to die in nuclear hellfire.

He replies in thought
... I suppose that being here astraly is safe enough that you will not be hurt by the bomb. Thanks. What do I need to disable first?

Captain Justice will follow Psi Bird's instructions to disable the bomb.

He replies over the radio

{Oh NO ~ That's not exactly true... I would be devastated to watch you die like that! Also... have you considered all the local life that would be lost from a nuclear detonation? Where do you think ALL those VERY ANGRY spirits go when they are so suddenly wiped out?  HERE into astral space... with me. Practically a storm of angry spirits each looking for something to vent on.  So WE need to get this done...!  The first thing will be to see if there are any failsafe traps to disarm... then we will disable the radio detonator...}

OOC: Not sure. We are not going off a demolitions skill here... we're kind of bypassing it sort of...as Stephany knows nothing herself about bombs... but while machine ghosting THIS device she can tell what every component is for and what it does.  She can know what makes it work and tell you how to stop making it work.  GM call here on if any "skill roll" is needed?'shrug'

In an act of blind desperation... Psi-Bird Exits the simple cyberspace of the Bomb's electronics and attempts to Teleport the Plutonium Core out of the chassis with her Teleport Object psi-power in hopes of forestalling any detonation...

OOC: Basic concept {of a Neutron Bomb}. In a standard thermonuclear design, a small fission bomb is placed close to a larger mass of thermonuclear fuel, usually lithium deuteride. The two components are then placed within a thick radiation case, usually made from uranium, lead, or steel.

So...Disarm the small fission bomb {ie remove fissionable core}... disarm the Neutron Bomb.

So... pray this works.

As Chimp Man Z smashes the broken tree down towards the 'detonator' he notes most of Mr. Magnum's men have begun to flee. The detonator sits untouched as Mr. Magnum flips to the ground and says, "well, at least no one opened my garage d..." just before his words were obscured by the physical thump of the bomb's detonation.

Map seems to show the Electrostatic Cannon is closer to the House [2,600'ft] than the barracks [4,000'ft]...flying at mach 1 'speed of sound' it took Psi-Bird 119 seconds to reach Captain Justice from the Barracks.  So that tracks CMZ... on the ground you'd get hit with the concussion wave as soon as you heard it.

What I'm not sure is does a Neutron Bomb have the same EM Pulse, and Thermal Blast as a normal nuke?  The Radiation is going to be ... well instantly lethal from the Neutron pulse.  Neutron bombs are meant to kill all living things but leave structures intact so ... there may be a much smaller thermal blast or none at all!  Clearly there are NO Radiation Hardened Structures ANYWHERE near here able to shield from the Radiation pulse.. what a mess, gonna be a lot of dead civis!

And... sorry folks... I screwed up... maybe I should have just ripped the plutonium core out with Super TK... instead?  Feared that might detonate the bomb premptively.  I failed to realize I must touch anything I teleport... can't touch Anything as an Astral Projection.

Chinilaya - Electrostatic Cannon

Wikipedia:
Upon detonation, a near-ground airburst of a 1-kiloton neutron bomb would produce a large blast wave and a powerful pulse of both thermal radiation and ionizing radiation in the form of fast (14.1 MeV) neutrons. The thermal pulse would cause third degree burns to unprotected skin out to approximately 500 meters. The blast would create pressures of at least 4.6 psi (32 kPa) out to a radius of 600 meters, which would severely damage all non-reinforced concrete structures. At the conventional effective combat range against modern main battle tanks and armored personnel carriers (< 690–900 m), the blast from a 1 kt neutron bomb would destroy or damage to the point of nonusability almost all un-reinforced civilian buildings.[citation needed]

Using neutron bombs to stop an enemy armored attack by rapidly incapacitating crews with a dose of 80+ Gy of radiation[44] would require exploding large numbers of them to blanket the enemy forces, destroying all normal civilian buildings within c. 600 meters of the immediate area.[44][45] Neutron activation from the explosions could make many building materials in the city radioactive, such as galvanized steel (see area denial use below).

Because liquid-filled objects like the human body are resistant to gross overpressure, the 4–5 psi (28-34 kPa) blast overpressure would cause very few direct casualties at a range of c. 600 m. The powerful winds produced by this overpressure, however, could throw bodies into objects or throw debris at high velocity, including window glass, both with potentially lethal results. Casualties would be highly variable depending on surroundings, including potential building collapses.[46]

The pulse of neutron radiation would cause immediate and permanent incapacitation to unprotected outdoor humans in the open out to 900 meters,[9] with death occurring in one or two days. The median lethal dose (LD50) of 6 Gray would extend to between 1350 and 1400 meters for those unprotected and outdoors,[44] where approximately half of those exposed would die of radiation sickness after several weeks.

A human residing within, or simply shielded by, at least one concrete building with walls and ceilings 30 cm (12 in) thick, or alternatively of damp soil 24 inches (60 cm) thick, would receive a neutron radiation exposure reduced by a factor of 10.[47][48] Even near ground zero, basement sheltering or buildings with similar radiation shielding characteristics would drastically reduce the radiation dose.[4]

Furthermore, the neutron absorption spectrum of air is disputed by some authorities, and depends in part on absorption by hydrogen from water vapor. Thus, absorption might vary exponentially with humidity, making neutron bombs far more deadly in desert climates than in humid ones.[44]

Exerting strength born of desperation, Captain Justice wraps his arms and legs around the bomb and crushes the carbon fiber casing as he compacts the bomb and folds his body around it. The expected explosion doesn't have much concussive force, the bomb is designed to take out aircraft by killing the crew with a neutron bombardment. It is a bomb, and does manage to thump when it goes off. Miraculously, Captain Justice had blocked almost all the bomb's energy!
Hanging in the air, Captain Justice begins to glow. The neutron radiation must have been interacting with whatever made him Captain Justice to begin with.
As Captain Justice seems to glow brighter with each passing second, he starts to accelerate skyward. As he flies into the sky, he glows brighter and brighter. From the ground, the brightly glowing man started to fly away, and as the distance between Captain Justice and the ground increased at an accelerating rate he seemed to glow brighter for a bit. Captain Justice was gone.

Chinilaya - Electrostatic Cannon

It was the shadows deepening as something in the sky began to glow brighter than the sun.  CMZ turns his gaze upwards, knowing that glow for what it is.  He had himself been at the center of such a glow not long ago.  He knows the glow is not Runa's wings.
The explosion seems to propel the hero clutching the bomb upwards, as though the concussion were escaping his grasp from only one direction.  As the ball of fire seems to be approaching escape velocity, CMZ turns back to Magnum.  Not once has the mutant ever called his foe by his full codename, Mr Magnum.  Not once.  Not now.  Not ever.  In fact, CMZ is beyond speech right now.
The sound that escapes his throat is a culmination of rage and grief at the death of a comrade he has known for too short a time.  One he had yet to spend time speaking with.  One he had yet to get to know.  But, the bellowing roar that escapes is accompanied by a burst of movement, as CMZ takes to the trees to go after Magnum.  His eyes crazed, his mouth seeming unhinged to grotesque proportion, the surprising length of his sharp canones revealed.  This does not seem like the normal Chimp Man Z, who likes to keep his fights light, more like a show, with periodic insults and quips.
No.  This Chimp Man Z appears ready to rip, to rend, to smash his target into oblivion.  And that target is Magnum.
