Were a lot of inactive games just deleted?

A lot of inactive games were just shifted to my deleted section. Did others notice this in theirs?

Yep, that's a thing that happened. Don't let your games go inactive or they'll be swept up eventually. Happens from time to time.

I am a bit confused, used to be the "RPOL Reaper" would give notice in the OOC threads of the inactive games, whereas I had no notice, just two of my games that I was holding for notes and contacts were just suddenly deleted.

At this point; you could still get those notes and contacts. Though if you took them off your sticky list it might be hard.

It had been a year since the script to clean up inactive games was run, so yes, a lot of old games were affected.

There is no 'notice' given by the system before this happens - the script removes games that have had no posts for a long time.  RPoL is not meant as a repository for games that aren't in active use.

If you wish to store games for notes, etc., please make a copy of what you wish to keep offsite, whether on your own local machine, cloud storage, etc.

Okay, but what happened to the reaper of old, that did notify us and also seemed to cull more frequently??

RPoL never had a reaper, that was at another site.  Game deletions here have always been handled by moderators manually running a script, when one of us had time to deal with it (which is why it's done less frequently now).

Notifications were not given, unless a GM kept dragging his game out of the "deleted" bin, but showed no signs of actually doing anything with it.

Hmmmm, I have never belonged to any other rp sites for long as they never stacked up to rpol quality so I am not sure what other site you/I might be thinking of.  I just have vivid memories of getting reaper culled on a few games that were dead from creation that I ran.  Oh well, thanks though.  I will just try and get all the materials from the games I lost.  I just recently got a new comp so I lost a lot of my old hard drive saved data.

Were a lot of inactive games just deleted?

An incredibly long time ago. We are talking circa 2001 or 2002 maybe, I had an alternate account called "Reaper" that was used for moderation. Haven't used it since then though. I may have posted that I was about to clean up old games back then, but I don't recall ever being that nice!

Were a lot of inactive games just deleted?

FYI, I ran the script to clean up deleted games today.  Those games that had been deleted either by the GM or the system with the inactive game cleanup last month, and had been inactive for over a year, or had 0 posts have been completely removed, and those games are no longer recoverable.

A reminder - IF you want to keep copies of a game that has gone inactive, or that you plan to delete, please do so in a timely manner.  The system allows for plenty of time for that to happen, but RPoL was never intended to host inactive games indefinitely.  :-)
