It's caused a little disruption in some games but invariably that's down to individuals not the system - all in all, I like it.

Shannara:
GMs will not 'get in trouble' for not doing so, though.

Much relief all around, thanks for your consideration, everything's working swimmingly then.

The transition (for me) was quicker than expected and simple. Also, it's nice to let the system take care of legality now. Thanks! :)

In reply to MythZarya (msg # 14):

6 of one, half dozen of another.  All the same to me. I am one of those who did not really care about entering my birth date.  There are more important numbers to worry about than that one.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

My only complaint was already addressed by Utsukushi...*grin*

I haven't joined any new games since the changeover, but getting cleared to continue in the games in which I already participate has been like clockwork.  Like tulgurth, I had no qualms about giving someone my birthdate, but I like the fact that there's less material to type in RTJs now.

So, in terms of impact to my RPOL experience...negligible.  Which, I think, is a sign of a great solution to a long-term, very sticky problem.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

Not in an A game or running one right now so pretty much invisible.

I do like that it is a master board data item now not a game item. Less likelihood of errors from 1000s of game records occasionally having a mistake.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

<quote Shannara>
SO ... it's been a few weeks since the system has started collecting age statements for games instead of the more manual process that we had before.

What do you think?

Is this making life easier for you GMs of adult games?

Players?

Has the transition been like you expected?

Is the change good/bad/business as usual?

------------------------------------
*** Speaking just as a player, it honestly hasn't made much of a difference to me. The first time I went to post in an adult game I got the little notice, and once I did what it said, everything was back to normal. Whole process took maybe a minute. I think this was a great step to take; if the subscription process is this easy, I'm looking forward to it even more.

I think it is simpler for the players and the GM.  I like it better due to that.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

Well as there has been a request not to stop asking the age statments nor deleting them for at least a month im still doing the age statements. If we can get rid of those it means i can start to clean out my inbox as i never trusted me in tossing out those messages in fear of accidentially kickign a player out.

But the system itself is nice n smooth. only had one player having issues but that fell under the no complain clause ;-)

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

I don't think there was a request to continue collecting age statements.  I know there was one to hold onto any already existing ones for some period of time, and that GMs were allowed to continue to collect age statements if they wanted.

If that is not the case (especially about the need to still be collecting them) that would be good to have clarified.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

GMs CAN still ask for age statements if they want that clarification, but the system handles it manually now.

We would like for GMs to still hold on to the statements that they currently have for a while.

And, of course, none of this takes away from a GM's responsibility to remove anyone from their games if they have reason to suspect that a player was not honest about their age -- and inform the moderators if that suspicion has more than a feeling to back it up.

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

I think this change was great and well implemented.  I'd rather click a few check boxes than have to write up a short formal statement every time I join an adult game.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

I do hope that there is a measure in place to account for any 'accidental mis-entry' of information. I know that entering incorrect information would probably give you guys a flag to investigate. IMO, it's much easier for a mistake to happen when you're just clicking, than typing. I just hope that's taken into account somewhere down the line - I haven't made a misclick myself, I've just been very careful because I'm aware it could happen.

I am curious if there's any sort of grace granted in such cases, especially where you may already have a consistent long-term record of consistent age statements.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

You are just clicking, but you also have a chance to review before you submit.

If you are in a hurry and don't have time to make sure you're entering the correct information, I'd suggest putting off requesting adult access and/or joining an adult game until you aren't in a hurry.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

I like it.

However, what is the effect if a new player wishes to change their author name? Re-request that they submit another RTJ under the new name?

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

Any user name changes must be handled by the moderators, and adult access with stay with the user account.

If you mean change their character name in game, it will have no effect on adult access.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

A player requests access under "PlayerA", gets accepted, then wants to change their user name to "FunonRPoL".

So, I don't know how to change a user name. Even so, if the player was granted Adult acceptance under PlayerA, are you saying that RPoL will automatically change Adult acceptance to FunonRPoL?

I wouldn't think so! But correct me if I am wrong.

Edit: I think I now understand what you have said. The player has no accounts now under either name, so I can't refer him to the Moderators for a user name change.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

PlayerA (RPoL user name) joins RPOL.

PlayerA requests adult access, is approved.

PlayerA joins 'GameB' which is adult.  Player A gives age statement to system, is accepted to 'GameB' as Character1.

PlayerA wants to change his character name from Character1 to Character2 in Game B.  GM makes the change.  This has no affect whatsoever to their adult access, and does not affect their RPoL name.

PlayerA wants to change his RPOL user name to PlayerAB.  PlayerA contacts moderators -- moderators tell PlayerA to contact the GMs of the games they are in to expect the name change.  PlayerA does so, the moderators change their RPoL user name to PlayerAB.  PlayerAB still has adult access to RPoL, to Game B, and still plays Character2 in Game B.

If PlayerA decides to make another account in RPoL (PlayerX), that is a violation of the rules and the PlayerX account would be suspended (site banned).

I hope that answers your question.

This is the situation. I've advised that the player contact the moderators. Thanks.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

Technically users (and characters) are stored as a unique numerical id.  The names are there for us mere humans, the computer doesn't care so much.  That's why renames can be done, the unique id does not change -- and that is what is recorded against the age statements.

(Extra tidbit -- that's why, as a GM, when renaming a character you're given the option of keeping the existing information.  Keeping "Same character, different name" ticked preserves the unique id, un-ticking it means a new id is generated.)

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

Hey, feel free to shoot me like ol' yeller if this is in the wrong thread, but I had a question sort of related to this adult policy change thingy.

Recently I went to look up some scratch pad notes in a sort-of defunct game I'm in, but the game said I needed to do the age thing again.  I think I was half asleep, and I dun goofed, because I received an auto rmail from moderator folk saying I'm not allowed in adult games because I'm a LIAR AND A CHEAT!

Actually, it said my age declaration showed a discrepancy with past age statements.  So I think I entered the wrong year or something.  In my defense, it was a drop menu and I was on my phone.

Anyone know how/if I can fix this?  There's no need for me to lie about my age, and I'm locked out of the games I'm currently in, including ones I'm GMing.  I'd like to rectify this ASAP as I currently feel dirty and guilty for reasons I feel are entirely accidental.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

The same message that told you there was a problem with your age statements should also have told you to contact the moderators via rmail to explain that discrepancy.

We take age statements very seriously and users should too.  But we understand that mistakes happen.  The moral is that if you are having difficulty using a mobile device you should take care to get it right, and if you don't think you can (yes, I know touchscreen accuracy on some devices/OSs can be rather wayward) please, please wait until you have access to something you're more comfortable using (such as a desktop computer) before trying to activate adult access in a game.

Re: Feedback - Changes to Adult Statement Collection

Though I haven't had a chance as a GM to see things from that side. Or much as a player either recently. I am very happy for the update to the Adult age statement. I think and hope it will help much more to keep people who shouldn't be in out. Again I want to thank jase and the mods for deciding to go this route with it as it doesn't keep out people who cannot pay for a subscription for whatever reason. It is a wonderful step in the right direction. :-)
