Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

We keep a GM only thread for some other things, and one of the posts is for people we have banned from the game. Has seemed to be the easiest way, other then that like someone said a text file on your computer.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

You can ban a player from a single game in the GM menu under the same section you manage lurkers. You could routinely copy this list every time you set up a new game.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

I keep a google document with the screennames of players I dont want to deal with anymore and a brief description as to why they are on the list.

Since I have started the list I have only had 2 situations where checking it has made a difference in either joining a game or allowing a player into a game.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

having had to do this myself luckily only one on the list but I know to keep that name somewhere so to ban from future games I run. Another though may have recently earned this as well for disrespect issues.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

Ah, I think the Google Docs thing might work best. Quick question- how do you handle this with players in games where you are also a player? I had to leave a game recently due to the instability of another player, and I most certainly do not want to ever see them show up in one of my own games and disrupt it- however as they were a fellow player, I don't know their screen name.

Will I just have to run the risk?

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

Depending on the relationship you have with the GM of the game you just left, they might agree to let you have the screen name so that you can avoid them.

If not you just need to remember the profile of the characters they create, their behaviour as a player and IC tells, and hope you don't run into them.

I do know one problem is that in many system games you can end up running into the same players over and over again.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

run the risk, maybe politely ask the GM.  Though if I were the GM i wouldn't say because i personally value a player's right to privacy.

you could rmail them which would reveal your rpol SN to them and if they reply you would know theirs.

in short there is no direct way that i know of to find out the identity of a player

Aye, that's about what I figured. Not about to ask the GM, because I myself wouldn't give out a player's screen name, and at least in this instance, the person was a psycho who threatened to report me for moderation if I so much as sent a PM to them.

I guess I'll just have to keep an eye out.

On another, semi-related note, how quick are you guys to remove players from a game? I, personally am rather swift- if someone does something worth getting kicked for, it's going to stem from an issue that is rather deep-rooted and isn't going to go away after a warning. I figure the best way to fix the player is to have no tolerance for their BS. That said, there is little that's going to get me to kick someone- I don't care about personal offense, especially towards myself, it's just disruptive, volatile behavior that will get me to give someone the boot.

What about you guys?

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

It depends on how the player comes off and what the problem is. I remove them if I get the "I can't play with this guy" feeling. Otherwise I'll put up with handing out warnings.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

All the games I run have a statement in the policies section similar to : Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated. Blue lightning cures a wealth of misdeeds by the players. According to Webster, blue lightning is a strike from the heavens, can travel to unheard of depths, and through the ethereal planes to strike a player. Blue lightning always does 12 d6 times the number of levels a player has as damage and does not need to roll to hit. You have been warned ... there is no resurrection or new characters allowed after such a correction.

I have yet to kick a player out. I have dropped players for not posting and not letting me know that RL have taken over. Most that have an issue rmail me and we work it out.

BUT I never had a player I couldn't take or they disrupted the game so much they had to be removed. I would if I had too

I got no problems with privately revealing the identity of a troublesome player. I don't want to play with troublesome players, and I can't imagine anyone else wanting to as well.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

I have a rather lengthy blacklist of people i won't play with, mostly because i found that our playstyles and general attitudes don't mesh, but a lot have been people who were just jerks or disruptive players in my own games. I actually have a game whose sole purpose is discussion between myself and players i DO like playing with, and we keep a group Blacklist there with detailed reasons, as a player/GM who one person can't stand might be okay with others in our little coterie.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

I have rarely come across anyone I just can't deal with, and most of the time, it's not that they're a jerk exactly - just me and them clash with our playstyles. So, I would rarely reveal a player's global user name; because I think a player has a right to expect I won't reveal who they are.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

I myself have a quesiton that pertains to this in a way. A game I sent a RTJ rejected me which I would be fine with normally except this time I fieel as if I was discriminated against unfairly. How does one find out the names of all GM's of the game in this case so they can be put on their banned list. I want to ask them but that is requiring them to be honest. Is there another way of finding this out.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

Well, I don't think this is actually a problem. If they -did- discriminate against you, they're not likely to join a game you run; or let you into a game they run regardless. (Don't forget; under the GM field now is listed the RPoL name of the head GM). And if they're not; you finding out may lead to you discriminating against them.

Best just to not over worry the others, trying to get their names could just cause more issues in the end.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

I really am over this now. Seriously though asked them and figured no response. :( Nah....:) Could care less. Got the one I need now on a banned list. Rest oh well let the primary take the fall. Could say something more in reference but why.

Moral is though that list has grown sadly over the last few days. A list....I hate to use. Keeps up I'm going to need a notebook with the names in it.

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

Hi JasmineValdez,

You can send an rMail and tick the "To/cc Administrator" and "To/cc Moderators".

That will get you some assistance.

Cheers :)

Re: Any way to blacklist certain users?

Click on rMail, then Compose a new rMail, then check the To/cc Moderators then hit the Compose button to write your message ... and Send rMail when done.

When you check the To/cc Moderators option, the To/cc Administrator is automatically selected.  If you really want to talk to the site owner jase, you can just check the To/cc Administrator, but most issues can/should be dealt with by one of the moderators - with jase's commitments and time differences, talking to the moderators is the way to go and we'll refer on to jase if necessary (ie if there's a database error or other problem that only he can fix).  :>
