When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

I don't know where this should go, and if I've put it in the wrong forum I do apologize.

I thought about putting this in an Rmail to the mods and especially jase, but I didn't want to make it more than it is.

I don't even know that this needs to be thread, but it was worth saying.

I made a post today in a game today that was rather long. I hit the preview button and got an server error (probably because I my connection). I was really upset that I lost my post and knew it was gone. Still I hit the back button, and there was my post!

I'm a very uneducated person when it comes to programming and networking so maybe it wasn't RPOL at all, but if it was I'm really glad that option is there. I remember years and years ago (when I had dial-up) I would get disconnected without knowing and then my post would be lost in the void.

I'm just very glad for so many of the good changes that happen here. I love the fact you can make language groups, that the colors were expanded, and that formatting is so simple.

It seems like even features that were implemented over year ago have a way of not being discovered by myself and then when I do take notice of them it's a pleasant surprise.

The list goes on of the features and decisions I appreciated.

Anyway, I just wanted to say thank you. :)

I agree.  I don't think we thank jase and the Moderators (sounds like a good band name) enough for the hard work that they put into this.

Thanks so much, folks!

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

I believe this was a feature of the browser.

Sometimes if I am composing a long post, email, or whatever I get a "timeout".  Web sites often only keep the session open or active or whatever the proper techie term is, for so long before it times out and you might not be able to complete the action.  Before I try to send or post such a long item, I highlight the text, right click, and copy.  This way if something happens and my work is lost I can start a new one and paste the info in.

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

I do occasionally (well, rarely these days) have problems of the Net or my browser having a tantrum in between my pressing the "Send" button and the "Message posted" screen coming up on any given forum/website. I got into the habit, many years ago, of pressing Crtl+A (to highlight the entire post) and then releasing the A and pressing the C (to copy it) in case something messes up and I lose it. Then one Ctrl+V (paste) later and my post is back :D.

You're very welcome, and thank you for your unsolicited feedback.  Double-thanks because it's positive.  (c;

As for your actual post, I'd love to take credit for that, but it's part of the browser's functionality.  FYI you can also press F5/Control-R (or whatever the reload hotkey is in your browser) and it'll normally ask something like "Do you want to resubmit the form?" to which you can answer "Yes" and it'll try to post your entire message again.

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

The only interaction I've had with the moderators has been negative. I've overstepped the rules or some such, and been reprimanded, sometimes being locked out of a forum for months because I didn't understand what I did wrong.

And frankly, I think you guys do a terrific job, because I know you have rules and apply them firmly and evenly. All I could ever ask for really.

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

Thank you.

I would like to add that if anyone finds themselves locked out of a forum and they don't know why, please come and ask -- preferably as soon as you know you're locked out.  We can very easily point you to the problem post(s) and usually it's just a simple matter of looking at the rules to see why the post was a problem and letting us know you've done that.

We used to just tell people, but that seemed to go in one eye and out the other.  It seems to stick a little more if the person on the other end has to do a little more than say 'okay'.

Mostly moderator interaction is negative - because we don't really have time to stop by and say 'Hey, you're great!  Thanks for playing here and not ever attracting our attention except in a good way.'

I'm grateful for all of you.  This is a wonderful community of people, and it has been an honor to play with those of you whom I have had the opportunity.

Yeah, most of my moderation has been because of not reading the rules thoroughly enough. BigBadRon seems to be everywhere though! btw thanks for keeping up with things.

I find there's a difference between 'negative' moderation, and fair. I don't consider any moderation I've seen here to be truly negative.

K, while that was mildly amusing at first blush it also sounded really mean and insulting after I thought about it for a minute, so, um, not cool dude.

Gosh not me.  But there's so little meat on a baby, I always prefer to wait a bit.

Anyways!  Thanks for the kind words.  I'm barely around these days but Shannara and BBR and jase definitely deserve many kudos for the work they do.

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

Yes, well done to jase and the mods.

I've had an occasional 'mild reminder' when my 'rules auto-pilot' has glitched, and I've made a couple of attempts at one-man lobbying for changes - with a predictable level of success...

But this is a really great resource and a first class place to play games. Thanks for making it so. :)

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

Can't we get a 'Thank You' button OPTION that spams the moderators and Jase? I'd like mine to also be customized with a the voice of a young woman with a southern US accent. Can't quite figure out how to type the 'thank youuuuu' out that way though. :)

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

Just throwing my voice out there, but I would love to add thank yous to all the moderators and Jase as well!  I haven't really had a way to give thanks to the people who run what I believe to be one of the best online roleplaying sites I know of, so this is a small way to give thanks I guess!

Keep up the good work. :)

I would like to chime in here as well.  This site is simply awesome in so many ways, some that have nothing to do with the features.  Thank you times infinity!!!

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

I notice it occasionally. Sometimes go to post and it gives you that cannot load or whatever. Just do L1 on my controller and go back and thankfully the post is there.

But yes to all the Admin you deserve praise. You don't hear it often enough and I for one am very thankful to have a site like this to come to. Tried others but this one to me is the best. Why I love it and again thank you. Jase and the Moderators? does sound like a cool rock band name.;)

Need some e's in there and it ends with a w.  That is if you're looking for a Jor-jaw accent.  Texas accents are a little harsher and Mis'hippie accents are even more liquid than Georgia accents.

Re: When you hear complaints more often than compliments...

The only mod I have interacted with is Ron.  Although he was reprimanding me, he was gracious enough to allow me to reply with my opinion with the bigbad part of his name coming into play.  And normally I never agree with what he did.  But the rules are the rules and there for a reason.  I just appreciate a place where I can rp and have fun doing it.
