Way to export a game?

Is there a way to export a game?  I have some games that are sitting in deleted status.  I don't want to resurrect them, because the games are done.  But at some point in the future I may decide to either run the same system (in which case the various rules summary posts would be useful), or run another adventure in the same setting (in which case having all the posts available would be useful).

I'm not seeing any way to preserve the game from being permanently deleted beyond resurrecting it.  Am I missing something?

Re: Way to export a game?

Open a thread (as GM) and the D/L link is in the top right corner, in the header bar (next to Edit Thread and Delete Thread, directly below the link to the Main Menu.

Click on it to display the whole thread as a single page and set options for how you want it to look (Private Lines, no Private Lines, that sort of thing).  Once you have it sety up, use your browser to "save page as... ".

Re: Way to export a game?

I see it now.  I'd been looking for something at the game level, not the individual thread level.

I played around with this, and it's fine for general archiving but not ideal for saving a thread for use in a later game.  The downloaded thread is formatted with HTML, including <br/> tags that don't get interpreted when pasting the content back into an RPOL post.

But, it's better than nothing.  Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Re: Way to export a game?

It's noteworthy that I'm on a tablet, and I don't get the 'save page as' option with tablet Mozilla, tablet Chrome, or tablet Browser. I do get 'save as PDF' on the tools menu of tablet Mozilla, but that cuts off the ends.

Re: Way to export a game?

I use Firefox and have an add on called Print Pages to PDF. I simply display all of the posts in a thread and use this tool to download a searchable PDF version of the thread for my records.

Cool - I just added that to my firefox. I was unaware of such a useful add-on.

Re: Way to export a game?

You can also just open the thread you want to save. Then Show ALL threads. Then Save the page as html. It will keep the RPOL formatting, and you can just upload the html and sub-folders to your server, and then link to it. I used to archive games this way, it kept the formatting of rpol, and the link structure, etc, but cleaned up the games threads, and post count.

Re: Way to export a game?

Just make sure that you DO NOT EXCEED the 1000 post count in the thread.

Where do you find "Show All Threads"?

Re: Way to export a game?

There is no "Show All Threads", only an "all" button at the top of each individual thread.
