For some reason i cannot select any background colors aside from dark green or white or custom. Why is this and what can i do? Anytime i select anything else it turns to either dark green or white.

During holidays you're FORCED to adopt 'holiday' colors. Once the holiday is over, you can make your normal choices.

Actually, you can create your own theme and thus opt-out of the special days.

I know what you mean. I'm trying to emulate the dark brown background but can't quite get it.

The only thing I've got problems with is I can't figure out which one changes the borders and color of quote boxes so I'm stuck with plain grey and blue bordered quote boxes.

Use "Load colours from" and select the theme you want to duplicate and then press "Grab them".  Then select the background wallpaper that the theme uses (or something else, or nothing at all) and then press "Create!".

No guesswork needed at all to recreate the theme.

The holiday themes are cute :) I like logging in and seeing them (especially since I didn't know it was Saint Patrick's day until 00:01)

Ah Thank you for that - the green holiday colors were giving me a terrible migraine. Now that I know how to get around them I have.
I know some people enjoy the 'Holiday colors' but I don't. Many of those holidays I don't even participate in.

I can put up with annoying colors for one day.

if its really a problem I could take a day off of RPOL <gasp!>
