Re: Version 1.9.54

RE: the new wiki system: There is mention of sub-articles. I'm not too familiar with standard wiki coding, so is it possible to create sub-articles within or for the main article for a specific game? E.g., could one create a main article and then, say, a sub-article for a specific character or major event within that campaign?

Re: Version 1.9.54

@Morgan, yep!

Just use this format to link another page [[pagename|This is a link to a page]].

When you save the page, it'll be a link.  Click the link, and you can go there to create the new page you're linking to.

Re: Version 1.9.54

A lot of these new features just make things immensely more convenient in all kinds of different little ways.

Thanks for the tireless work. :)

Re: Version 1.9.54

Fixed a few issues.

When replying to threads the proper characters should (will?) now be skipped, rather than most not actually being skipped... or worse, the GM being skipped (rather than always being there).  You might find in some cases the list is surprisingly short!

When creating a theme, loading an existing will now automatically select the background image.

Fixed RPoL Forum searching on the main menu (ones done via the hyperlinks).  Forums don't have a rating, so the (new) general rating tickbox is now ignored, like it should have been from the start.

Did some other stuff too, can't remember what it was!

In reply to bigbadron (msg # 25):

Oh yes. There they were, and like erbridge mentioned, they don't appear in all threads. Mostly, that is actually a help. Thanks jase. Great work.

Re: Version 1.9.54

Excellent stuff jase.

I love the concept of your hub.rpol and dice.rpol. Dice.rpol will be a great tool for my at-the-pub RPGs where taking a bag of dice isn't feasible.

To what extent do you see hub.rpol being populated?

Re: Version 1.9.54

cruinne:
  1. As GM, go to http://wiki.rpol.net.
  2. There, click "RPoL Game Wikis" on the right-hand sidebar.
  3. Then type your game name (or a good portion of it) into the box for "Search for wiki arcticles on RPoL games:" and hit the "Search" button.
  4. Click the name of your game to start its article.

OK, I seem to be missing something* here about step one. I can't find how to go to the link as a GM. Any help would be appreciated.

*And I will probably hit my forehead and go "duh", once someone points out the obvious to me.

Re: Version 1.9.54

Ignore the words "As GM" in the instructions. cruinne's just trying to point out that only GMs can create the first wiki page for their games.

Re: Version 1.9.54

Before I use it, can someone explain to me how the "secret to" works, and what it will display to players?

Re: Version 1.9.54

"Secret to" works in exactly the same way as a "private to", except that the result is undetectable to the recipient. So "{Secret to Heath: Secret Text}" ([ not {) would appear as "Secret Text" to Heath, but would be absent for anyone else. It also helpfully manages spaces at the edges so it doesn't look like you've stuck some secret text in the middle of a section of prose.

If you want a proper example, I'd be happy to add you temporarily to a game of mine and demonstrate.

Re: Version 1.9.54

So, for example, someone has infravision.  I type a secret to that person in the middle of a paragraph about what they see, and they don't know for sure that it's "secret to" them and might think everyone saw that text?  So only the GM sees that it was secret and no one else sees anything peculiar at all?

Re: Version 1.9.54

That's right. The GM sees it as being underlined, and a mouse over will reveal the name of the recipient, but for a player it either looks like normal text, or it doesn't appear at all.

Re: Version 1.9.54

Loving the additions;

Can you please explain the 'base' option in the die roller?

Also is it possible to color die results based on the number of sides on the die?

Base option discussion thread has all the gory details: link to a message in another game

And no the coloured dice are just there to be manually picked as the mood and whimsey takes you - if you want all your D8s to be yellow, then you're going to have to remember to pick yellow yourself whenever you throw your D8. ;>

Re: Version 1.9.54

I wonder if some colours might sway probability. So far rose is lucky, but dark green isn't so much.

I was wondering if people would ask about that.

I'll tell you later whether the colour affects how the number is generated/calculated... once conclusions have been reached.  (c;

Re: Version 1.9.54

The preview function is so good that it makes me willing to forgive any insinuation that color affects the die rolls.

But I'm putting my money on red.

Re: Version 1.9.54

I'm convinced I can still roll poorly in any color. :) However, I am grateful for the ludicrous amount of good work Jase has given us over the years. Maybe we just need to cross-reference more things, like day of the week, local temperature, stock market averages, etc...
