CS-8 Marco Polo

CS-8 Marco Polo

Colony ship 8 is the first of the GNA fleet to be built with more than finding a new planet in mind. Due to contact being lost or never established with the first Seven the Global Alliance decided that the Marco Polo needed the ability to defend itself better than previous versions. To achieve this GNA decided to join forces with the one country that had refused to join them in the first place, the United States.
Taking from their experience building the first dedicated space warship the USA provided the weaponry and technology required to arm CS-8. In return, American citizens were allowed to join in the lottery for passage, and the USA was allowed to designate 100 people of their own to board. Thus Marco Polo became the first truly global colony ship. The gift of an american development called a Hawking Field also means the Polo is the first ship with artificial gravity.

CS-8 is also the first ship to exceed the 1.3 kilometer length. At 1.7 kilometers she is massive, and at its center she spans 45 decks. A lot of this size is used as storage, most notably the belly of the ship, where 5000 cryo-pods hold the entire population as the ship travels the distance to Alpha Centauri.
8 massive cargo holds contain all the equipment needed to establish a colony on an inhabitable planet, with gear present for terraforming if required. Numerous all-terrain vehicles contain modules that can be easily set up, from a mobile nuclear generator, to several fully deployable foundries, greenhouses and even a complete mobile command center.
Two hangar bays hold a compliment of 24 space fighters, 24 large transport shuttles, and 4 dropships.
A large part of the back of the vessel is taken up by it's engines and engineering sections. The outer sections and the hull have mostly military purposes.
The front part of the ship was designed to function as a fully operational city as long as the crew needs to establish a colony.

CS-8 Marco Polo in the game

For game purposes, the Marco Polo is devided into different sections and parts, each with it's own thread. Players are to keep good track of where there characters are, and when moving from location to location, they should indicate such in the posts. Ending the last post with  " -> " and the new location, and starting the new post in the new location with
" From: ... "
This way it stays clear for all users who is where, and which interactions are and are not possible. When in doubt, always feel free to ask the GM.

The different locations are:

1. Bridge.
The beating heart of the Marco Polo, the usual location of it's captain, and the place where  things concerning the CS' operating happen. The place to be for ship's crew.

2. Engineering.
All things technical. Ships engines, repair facilities, manufacturing. The place to be for technical staff.

3. Hangar bays.
Anything going off or coming onto the ship goes through here. Flight crew, ship engineers, bay workers, this is their place.

Hellcat Fighter

Twins light fusion drive. 0.7 lightspeed.
Quad pulse guns. (modified lasers)
Up to 4 void-torpedos or 12 vacuum missiles.
One or two seater.

Rhino Shuttle

Hippocampus Dropship

4. Medical decks.
If its hurt, we fix it. The location for doctors, nurses, scientists.

5. Cargo holds.
Untill the colony is established this is more of a giant warehouse, where anything remotely usefull is stockpiled. Civilian work crews run the place, except for hangar bay 1, which is strictly military.

Forward explore

Coloniser Vehicle

6. Recreational deck.
Running the length of the ship, deck 11 through 23 is the recreational deck. It has everything from gyms to a soccer field, a theater, bars and restaurants. Each deck has diners, but they just serve the regular foods. If its fancy, its here.

7. Military quarters.
All military staff out of cryo can find a bunk here. Most are four beds to a room, but for every officer on board there is a small appartment. Also here are the Baracks, gunrange, armoury.

Marine operational outfit.

8. Civilian quarters.
Housing for all non-military crew. All consist of a living/sleeping area, a small kitchen, and sanitation.

9. Upper quarters.
High grade staff and personell are housed here. Most notably the quarters of the captain are here.

10. Cryo chamber.
Located in the belly of the ship, nearly in the center, is the cryo chamber. It has the height of 12 decks, nearly 150 meters length, and contains all 5000 individual cryo chambers. Fully automated systems are in place to wake the crew when mission parameters require it.
