AFMBE

I have a question about this system that I can not grasp.

Skills: are 1 for 1 up to lvl 5 and then they are 3 for 1...6 for 2...and so on.
(7 in a skill would cost 11 points)

Special Skills are a 2 for 1 - so Martial Arts 3 would be 6 points

Skills that require a Type are 1 for 1 up to 5 (Guns: Pistol)

Now here is the big questions... When you specialize in a skill it cost 1 skill point to get a +2.

So I want to know if this is right....

I select Guns (Pistol) for 5 Points (+5)
  I specialize in 9mm Pistols for 5 points (+10)

So this means that I get a 1D10 +15 + Dex = X for the cost of 10 points? 5 for the skill and 5 for the specialization? Is his right??? Because it seems like a huge loop hole?

Oh wow.  That's what the book say, but it seems way backwards.

Why would it cost so much to specialize in Martial Arts, or Occult Knowledge, or Medicine, yet so little for other skills that you'd think would require just as much time and effort (Character points) to acquire?

Specialization is a one-time thing. For one point you get +2, once!

Ohh!

Thanks for that, I missed the reference to it being a one time effect completely.  Makes more sense now. Doh!  :)

Where does it say this? Cause I don't find that in the game.

Re: AFMBE

On page 51 in the rules book it says

"Specialties are raised by improving the base skill." and "Specialties cost 1 character point". This leads to the result that specialties cannot be raised themselves.

OKay I re-read it and I understand now so in theory -

When you have a specialization you could at most only have a 2 more than other such as...

Skill Guns /  Type - Pistol / Specialization - 9mm

So I spend 3 points in Guns (Pistol) and 1 Point in 9mm - I would have a +5 using a 9mm and only a +3 to other pistols ..... is this correct?

And does this cost me (4 skill points for the +5)

So I think what I was doing wrong is I thought you could buy Specialization like skills at a 1 for 2 cost - which now looking back on it explained why I thought it was so OP and now it isn't.

This does lead to another issue -

This means that if I had the same set up

Skill Guns /  Type - Pistol / Specialization - 9mm

So I spend 3 points in Guns (Pistol) and 1 Point in 9mm - I would have a +5 using a 9mm and only a +3 to other pistols ..... is this correct?

And does this cost me (4 skill points for the +5)

So that means that I could not be really good at like Boxing (Martial Arts) but not totally suck at Brazilian jiu-jitsu? you would always just me 2 better at the other ??
