Mistygleam Friar

Introduction to the Forum

Rough Draft

Welcome to Mistygleam Friar! The Forum is first and foremost a play-by-post roleplaying community for the RPG Mistygleam Friar, an RP set up to play out like a TV Show using modified cortex dice rules. It's an original Game Setting played out through episodes and seasons. Play-by-post role-playing is pretty common nowadays the practice of posting in a thread an account of character's actions with a 'Game Master' posting in the thread the response and moving the story along. Play-by-post roleplaying is a great way to role-play and it gives us a chance to stretch our literary muscles as well. Literary roleplaying is the practice of doing more than just roleplaying in your post; but trying to write your posts with description and great detail. This Forum uses dice rules, specifically those of a slightly modified cortex. Cortex is a roleplaying dice system that was created by Margaret Weis Productions, Ltd and is used for the game here on the forum. (I have no ownership of cortex.) The rules have been slightly modified for the sake of our setting.

Mistygleam Friar

The idea is that this would be an RP set like a 'TV' Show, similar to Fanfiction RPs based off some shows like Charmed, Supernatural, and so on. I intend to go an original route; it's a cinematic experience not directly based off any existing show. This is our own show, totally original with our own characters. Now for the sake of the experience, 'Sessions' are going to be broke down into seasons, episodes and scenes. We'll be using live action models actors and actresses; that sort. Now the actual setting of the show is taking place, or centered around, the mysterious town of Mistygleam Friar, deep in the woody areas of Ohio. Around Lake Eyrie is this town where magical creatures, aliens, gods, and psychics live in a secret, guarded coexistence with human mortals. There are incredible secrets in this town, reaching backwards and forwards through time, space, and everything in-between, a place where literally anything is possible. The 'Show' will be about the Town and the denizens therein. Of course, throughout the RP some characters may be more lead material then others, but that's something the player/characters do for themselves.

Modified Cortex System

There is a dice rule system there that is used when doing in-character actions is used to define the results of said actions. You can ask if you should roll the dice before posting an in-game action, but usually a staff member will let you know when rolling is necessary for the action you want to do and, once your roll has been made, will post the results of the action. There is an explanation on using dice right here.

Literary Roleplaying

Our community’s goal is to create more than just an interesting and fun game, instead a 'fictional media experience' for a role-play that plays out like a TV show. There is a certain level of writing we expect from our players, which is, of course, decently written in-character posts. This forum was created for those people who really enjoy role-playing and writing. We encourage good writing, but don't fret if you really want to RP with us, but aren't a great writer; we are here to help. It will be a purpose of the staff to mentor young, early, or poor writers; if you’re willing to put in the effort, I’m certain you won’t be half bad. Of course, if you really have no intention of cranking out a half-decent post “and you’re constantly doing one-liners, you will hear from a member of the staff.

Modern/Fantasy/Sci-Fi

This is a Forum RPG with a Modern, Fantasy, and Sci-Fi Setting with a lot of Steampunk thrown in. Just putting it out there, magic, psychic, and weird science is relevant in the 'Universe' of this RP
