A World Asunder (player-driven, writing-heavy freeform)

A freeform forum game of intrigue, villainy and adventure. Player-driven, social-centric and focusing on strongly developed characters and writing, this game allows prospective players to introduce their own new aspects of the world, be it another species, country, magic practice or secret society. While game moderators make sure that consistency is kept and everything fits the mood of the game, players are encouraged to be as creative as possible. Whether a monster pretending to civility, a street vendor, a politician or powerful adventurer, any setting-suitable concept is viable!

A good grasp of English and an interest in playing layered characters are required, though allowances for non-native speakers or actual disabilities are of course made.

While not quite a traditional introduction, please enjoy these collected tidbits intended to give an impression of the game world:

As the title suggests, this is a world out of balance. Magic, once a powerful force across the world, has grown unreliable and weak, only demonstrating its real strength in places that are either close to the supernatural or hidden away from the cleansing power of the sun. Technology is on the rise, having advanced to a level around that of the 1920s in the real world: trains, automobiles, skyscrapers, electric lighting, telephones, radio, and the like have become commonplace. (Indiana Jones and Fullmetal Alchemist are reasonably good examples of this kind of setting.)

Although magic is weak in broad daylight and in the heart of civilization, there are exceptions. Private sanctuaries, ensorcelled and protected, allow a mage to perform greater deeds. Natural places may be imbued with mystic energies (haunted houses, ancient coves, dark temples, and the like), and the supernatural races still in existence, although waning, retain their powers.

The gods may or may not exist. There certainly are powerful otherworldly entities to call upon, but whether they are actually the ones who created this world or simply powerful eldritch beings is unknown. Hell-realms, on the other hand, do exist. The demons and devils from these can have very different motivations, but all are ultimately evil and seek to corrupt other races to their own ends.

Our story begins in Telor, the largest city and capital of the expansive Telorian Empire. For centuries, the empire has been ruled by decadent and possibly mad nobles claiming divine descent, though their influence is now being challenged by the rise of companies such as the Chuuten Corporation, which has found a way to combine technology with the remnants of magic in this world.

More so than ever before, the stage is set for a clash between the old guard of royals and sorcerers holding fast to the remains of a waning age and the upstart businessmen and scientists bringing the innovations of a new era. But these groups are by no means unified in purpose, and dark forces lay in the shadows awaiting their chance to exploit the conflicts of mortals.

If this catches your interest, feel free to ask questions in the recruitment thread or apply for a character! Direct queries to my person are, of course, also welcome.
