To not clog up our game thread, @Artifex Maralen is there for the interrogation, she's just being quiet and observing - she doesn't want to interrupt and possibly mess things up.

I don't mind OOC in the game thread, in fact that's where I prefer it if it especially pertains to something in the game. The act of you trying them on would involve the rest of the party seeing you do it, so... there you go.

Apologies to my players. I have a very busy weekend, so I'll be way off my usual updating schedule. Thank you for understanding.

OOC Thread for General Use (2)

I've put out a call for more GM's and players; something I try to do every six months to bring in new games and fresh fodder.

I've also updated my "Chronicler’s Game Information" thread. Some of the changes I made are:

1) When speaking, please use a different color for your speech. OOC color is Orange, and I reserve the colors Red, BOLD, and DarkGreen.

2) Please include the effects of spells and special abilities that affect your character at the bottom of your post in OOC so that I can easily find and remember them. Please update this information every time you post.

3) I do use psionics in my game. (I've changed my mind on this one, and will allow psionics.

4) Please roll all skill checks at once. If you think a skill check might come into play, roll it. I'd rather have the skill check rolled in advance than have to wait for it to be rolled. This also applies to rolling attacks and damage. Roll the damage with every attack even if you think it may not hit.

These are all the changes I've made to my game information at this time. If you have any questions, PM me.

Thanks!

OOC Thread for General Use (2)

This is a FYI for both player's and GM's alike. It seems that every time I give a group of players some downtime I get dead silence in the posting. I feel this comes from lack of knowledge in regards to what can be done during downtime.

If you don't know what you can do during downtime, here are some ideas.

Spoiler text: (Highlight or hover over the text to view)
This comes from Ruslan at http://www.giantitp.com/forums/showthread.php?513004-My-list-of-downtime-activities. I modified it a bit to fit my game.

Please subtract your upkeep costs for this downtime period. See the "Variant: Upkeep" sidebar on pg. 130 of the 3.5 DMG.

All income and expenses specified below are on top of that.

Please note that some choices require feedback from me.

1. Take up non-adventuring work.
- You find work as a craftsman, bodyguard, teacher, performer, temple acolyte or whatever non-adventuring work is applicable for your character.
- You earn 10 gp x (your level) during the downtime period.
- You may choose this option twice (burning the candle at both ends!), to earn twice as much

2. Learn a new skill, tool or language.
- Specify which skill/tool/language you want to become proficient in.
- Most skills/tools/languages take more than one downtime period to learn. Be prepared to spend several periods on this.
- It also may cost money to find a tutor.
- You may choose this option twice, to accelerate the learning.

3. Reunion
- Reconnect with people from your background (your partners in crime, your former military buddies, members of your noble house, etc).
- They may have useful advice or information for you.
- You may also choose to have them shelter you for free (no need to spend the 10 gp mentioned above)

4. Spell research (wizard only)
- Choose a Wizard spell of any level you could cast, and add it to your spellbook.
- This research costs 50 gp per spell level, half of that if a spell is from your school of specialization.

5. Find magical or exotic items to purchase
- Describe what kind of items you'd like to find for sale, and how much money you're willing to invest.
- The DM will have something for you, although maybe not exactly what you were looking for.

6. Research
- Go to the library or gather rumors in a local pub.
- You may have a specific question(s) in mind, of just general search for information.
- The DM will have some interesting information for you.

7. Carouse
- For a while, you engage in a hedonistic lifestyle, throwing lavish parties and getting drunk.
- This costs at least 20 gp, although you may choose to spend more.
- Lots of interesting things can happen! And probably will!

8. Make a new contact
- Choose the kind of VIP you'd like to be introduced to (eg. town's mayor, the leader of the thieves' guild, etc).
- Costs at least 10 gp, may cost more, depending on the importance of the person

9. Spread rumors
- You may spread rumors about yourself (to glorify yourself, or even establish a false identity) or about someone/something else.

10. Scribe a scroll (spellcaster only)
- Scribe one of the spells you know onto a scroll.
- A spell may be cast from a scroll once, effectively increasing your number of spell slots.
- A scroll is a one-use item.
- It costs 50 gp per spell level to scribe a scroll, half of that if you’re a Wizard and the spell is from your school of specialization

11. Practice your combat skills, or meditate and pray for good fortune
- You gain Inspiration at the start of the next adventure.

12. Recuperate
- If you suffer from any debilitating illness, long-term effects of poison, etc., you become cured at the end of downtime.

13. Brew potions or poisons (Proficiency with Alchemist Supplies, Herbalism Kit or Poisoner Kit required)
- Describe the effect of the potion or poison, the DM will have the money and time requirements for you.

14. Craft (proficiency with appropriate tools required)
- You may attempt to craft a suit of armor, a carriage, a boat, etc.
- Expensive items may have to be crafted over several downtime periods.
- Some gold for raw materials will have to be expended.

As you can see, there are many things that one can do during this time. The ROLEPLAY here can be a lot of fun, and this event shouldn't just be a list of what a character is going to do, but a roleplay experience that can be just as eventful as any other part of the game. GM's should be prepared to run short adventures with the hooks the characters present in what they want to do during downtime.

It would be a shame to see this part of the game just limited to a list of what a character does during this time, and not fully roleplayed.

That's my two coppers. Nuff said.

I am ok with that, as long as all in the game are aware that one of the players has DM level access.

Re: OOC Thread for General Use (2)

This situation is a first for me, and an unusual situation. I'm trying to research it, and I would like help figuring this one out.

Two players sandwiched 3 kobolds between them. The party went first, and killed one kobold. On their round, 2 kobolds remain in unthreatened squares.

They both flee past a player which will give the player AoO. Even if they tried to withdraw the player would get the AoO since they still had to pass through a threatened square. Instead of withdrawing, the kobolds chose to attack, and simply move after they missed.

Ok, so we establish that the player gets an attack of opportunity against both of them, but is this even possible since his crossbow is now empty.  He shot and missed, then it was the kobolds turn.

I see it as you can take an AoO on the kobolds as long as the player uses the crossbow like a club, or if he has quickdraw, he'd be allowed a weapon change and then get both AoO's.

But, if he does not have the quickdraw feat, he'd be allowed, as I stated, to swing the crossbow (at the risk of damaging it, though) like a club.

Is my way of thinking, right, and if not, can someone point me to the RAW documentation that explains what to do in this situation?

Thanks!
