Re: The Black tower 3

In reply to Amelia Montaigne (msg # 876):

the swordsman tentatively reaches over to touch the wall that is now beyond the door.
It is cold, slick, and unyielding, and the staircase beyond is no longer visible.
"Looks like it already is bricked up."

Re: The Black tower 3

In reply to Gareth (msg # 880):

Unless someone else has mastered the college of Gate magic, the door is likely to remain inaccessible.  Given that the portal is made of worked adamantine, physically destroying it is exceedingly difficult, and rendering the area mana free would doubtless be problematic for the integrity of the entire castle.  This is as good as you have got, although a good metamagician could lay linked traps...

In reply to Narrator (msg # 881):

What about extended use of heat on a small section of the gate? Small enough that heat could be maintained indefinitely, to break the structure?

Re: The Black tower 3

In reply to Narrator (msg # 883):

Nor does granite. But heated up, most things will change to either liquid or gas eventually...if the temperature rise continues indefinitely, as "heat' can do if skill level is sufficient.

Just looking for a creative solution!

Re: The Black tower 3

At the moment you don't know if the flat stone beyond the door is the gate or something behind the expensive wooden paneling surrounding it.
Were Gorgath still with the party, the Doomrazor could have been of help.

In reply to Amelia Montaigne (msg # 888):

"We never got to the inner sanctum where the good books and probable magical items are.
The dead artificer also had diagrams of some kind of spider thing we never saw either, and we have been letting
our fire mage determine our directions, and try to steer the jumble of parts, no offense Safwan, into areas it was unfamiliar with."

In reply to Haveron Stormwal (msg # 889):

"Yes, we have barely made it safe. Looting is the reward for that, and I have a lot I would like to find, but the fire mage has been giving directions in order to make the place safe.

But I also was thinking about breaking the frame of the door. Would that work?

Re: The Black tower 3

In reply to Narrator (msg # 891):

Who might know? We are near the top of the tower, are we not?

Noting comments in OOC, Gareth has been pretty careful not to burn anything except people who were trying to kill him, so for a pyromaniac, he is pretty restrained, I thought.

He is very interested in going back and studying the spells when he gets a chance...once he is sure they are safe from invasion! Surely he is not the only one with that concern...

Re: The Black tower 3

"I hope we find a book that can instruct me in using magic!" exclaims Amelia. "I love books. And I'm not so very good, strong, in using a sword and such. It's also not very, well, lady-like. I think I'd be good at magic." She tugs on her favourite necklace.

In reply to Narrator (msg # 900):

What would that default to? Also, how big is the portal frame? Is it a standard door size, made out of adamantine? How thick is the frame? Trying to get a physical picture of what I am working with.
