If you climb the rest of the way, you can see the stool that was kicked over. The loft space is partially exposed - the thatch above the peaked ceiling beams  has some  gaps, and the wood of the floorboards is a little soft in places.  The body hangs from a cross beam, and has something odd about it.

“Hold on.  Before you do that, consider: do we really want to leave evidence we were here?  We might even be accused of killing this man.”

The body is years dead, and looks like it may have had plague before it hung itself... maybe trying not to due slowly?

Exiting,you find yourselves an a narriw street. Several of the townhouses are boarded up and in great disrepair.
