Broderick's Expedition

In reply to Broderick Leibert (msg # 25):

Molag locates a small wooden box lodged in the chimney, and a trap door in the floor next to the fireplace.

He blows soot off the box and rattles it.

The attic space is redolent of rotting straw and dead rat. Something stirs in one of the mouldering straw pallets

Far a short time he watched the straw pallet for further movement I think there's a nest of rats or a snake up here Broderick informed the others, as he climbs down. Crossing to the trapdoor Molag found he motions for one of the others to open it.

In reply to Clair Leibert (msg # 28):

The trapdoor has a rusted bolt holding it closed, but Molag
makes short work of it with his crowbar.  After reholstering
the tool, he heaves open the trapdoor.

The smell of rodents is stronger from the hole that s wooden ladder descends into.

Broderick's Expedition

Leaning over the hole Broderick peers into the depts. Holding his pebble over it to illuminate as much as it can. Assessing the hole for several seconds he tests the top few rungs of the ladder for strength and stability. Phylicity and I'll go first if any of you see anything below moving in the light please alert us. He comments looking at each of the team When Phylicity is settled on his shoulder he hands her the pebble to illuminate the descent and starts down the ladder, gingerly testing each rung as he does.

Clair's face paled when the stench of rodent emanated from the hole. Covering her mouth and nose with her scented kerchief. Gracious Broderick, toss a flame down there first or at least let the air clear out that stench. she suggested muffled by the kerchief

Broderick's Expedition

In reply to Molag Anders (msg # 35):

On hearing Molag's suggestion he stopped and started back up the ladderThat's an excellent suggestion I'll come right up and we can lower Smasher together. Reaching the floor above they quickly secured Smasher and began to  lower him.
Shortly befor he is settled completely, the masonry around the chimney begins to crack.
Suddenly, the pot hook is ripped free, causing Smasher to drop about a foot to the paving. Part of the fireplace collapses!

Down is accomplished, but up is another circumstance. ..

Broderick suggests Phylicity accompsnies Smasher and hands her the torch pebble; when Smasher reaches the ground Broderick climbs down followed by the Clair then the others.

In reply to Broderick Leibert (msg # 40):

Clarence raises his lantern, set with a glow stone to survey
the area  The space roughly mimics the footprint of the area above, but is covered about a foot high in debris. Bits of
rotten wood, and broken crockery suggest shelving that
collapsed away from the walls. There is a roughly bricked
over archway on the west wall, and a lot of holes in the
masonry on all sides. There is a faint rustling and
squeaking.
