I just realized I never responded to Corym or Kitheras's questions to Talindra. I've updated that thread with her replies. As she mentioned earlier, this used to be one of the city's hospitality centers. Lots of inns and taverns.

Welcome Euin Hawkhand and Qasida to the world that is Treasures of the Past.

Expect a Drilling once rescued and a Thrilling campaign once you are welcomed in to the fold.  Hope you enjoy it as much as Corym, Elorfindar, the DM and I have.

Excellent that a Harper arrives, once Krackor knows of this, your ears will be eager for him to go to sleep lol

Re: OOC 4: Cut Off One Head...

Hi DM and Corym.  If this information about #10 where the Hobgoblins are is shared, this may change the approach we have planned.

Krackor would post this:
(Krackor would suggest that the smaller members enter by the Halfling sized area as this will give a disadvantage to the Hobgoblins but not to himself and Sirenya is coming along.  "If I go in along that route, not being stealthy, I can create a diversion should one be needed, failing that, I can prepare greatly.  It all depends on which entrance the Hobgoblins have been using, if both, then this idea is mute.")

Posted here as it is ooc thoughts until IC post made.

If you don't mind being the distraction--that's great.  Sirenya wasn't going to come along--she was going to invisibly watch the neighborhood from the top of the tower and signal to us if our battle aroused danger using the birdcall system.

I think the Hobgoblins there ought to be able to be dealt with solo, certainly, and that will allow Corym and the rest of the non-plate armored group to use the surprise round to try to eliminate the hobgoblins in the other room silently.

Re: OOC 4: Cut Off One Head...

I'm catching up on that-which-has-gone-before.    A few questions ...

I gather that you guys are in Myth Drannor seeking lost magics and whatnot ... but what is irithilium?

My Google-Fu has failed me ... one of the first results for it was an in game post where you guys were searching for it.  I narrowly avoided falling a recursive loop.  :)

How long (in game) has the company been operating together?

How long had Karilla been MIA before her return?

Can I get a 5-second overview of the Dorian-is-Kitheras subplot?

Thanks!

Re: OOC 4: Cut Off One Head...

The Irithlium was one of Myth Drannor's leading schools of wizardry. As such, it was an identifiable goal for exploring the ruins, especially since Corym's character is focused on the recovery of elven magic and spells. Choosing "let's go to the Irithlium" was a way of giving the explorations of Myth Drannor a more coherent focus than just digging randomly. It was also a place that might have information on gates, to help explain how a malfunctioning gate pulled a bunch of random people to Myth Drannor at the same time (which was my in-game way of shifting the campaign to Myth Drannor). The goal of exploring the Irithlium has since been shelved, since it's on the other side of the city.

The original group came together in Tarsakh (April), 1360 DR in Scornubel. It's now early Uktar (November). That group was Corym, Elorfindar, a gold elven wizard named Nym Amalith, a half-elven ranger named Taeghen, and a human cavalier from Calimshan named Yurkal. Corym and Elorfindar created the group at the behest of Elorfindar's father, a high-ranking priest of Labelas, to retrieve elven historical items. They were also to keep a discrete eye on Nym. By the end of the month they had found their target (an ancient journal), rescued a human noble from Hill's Edge named Certhick, and returned him to his family. Arriving in Hill's Edge, Nym left the group, having gotten word that his patriarch was ill.

As normal for a play-by-post game, we've had a number of players rotate in and out. Karilla and Krackor both joined during separate adventures over the next month while the group was based out of Hill's Edge. Karilla was escorting a dwarven psionicist of mysterious origin named Obar. Krackor had gotten stuck in a trap in one of the dungeons the group encountered. Several other people joined the group for greater or shorter stretched of time.

Kora Roustinghorn is an NPC follower of Corym and Karilla. She's Certhick's cousin, sixteen, and a spitfire. She joined because she wanted to become a wizard. At Corym's urging, she first trained as a fighter. She's a Fighter 3 who's currently training to dual-class into wizard, and keeps eagerly following the group even though they keep getting into more and more dangerous territory. She thinks exploring Myth Drannor is the greatest idea ever.

The game shifted from the Sword Coast to Myth Drannor about an in-game month ago. We were down to just Corym and Krackor as active players, so we decided to shake up the game and recruit some new people. I used a malfunctioning gate in a ruin that the group was exploring to make the changes. It grabbed Corym, Krackor, and Kora and dropped them in Myth Drannor while throwing the rest of the group (including Karilla) across the multiverse. Elorfindar's player, who had withdrawn from the game earlier, wanted to come back, so I used the gate to grab Elo from Waterdeep and bring him back.

Karilla has been gone from Faerun for about a month. But, because she and I thought it would be funny, time flows differently on Athas. So from her perspective she's been gone 150 years.

Dorian/Kitheras was one of the new players joining when the game restarted in Myth Drannor. He's a very Tolkien-inspired elf, a ranger/bard who's musical and gifted with words while also very nature-oriented. He was serving as a spy for Evereska in the human cities of Sunset Vale (interesting note, all of the party's elves are from Evereska). His real name is Kitheras, but he was operating under the cover identity of Dorian when the gate grabbed him, and so his original player used that name until the character warmed up to the group.

Re: OOC 4: Cut Off One Head...

I think that three of the adventures we had that really defined us and drive us to this day were around Hill's Edge:

We had a mission to recover an artifact for Elorfindar's father--but it was in a drow vault.  We made an initial attempt, turned back, then got captured by the drow.  Then Karilla and I violated the terms of the agreement with the Drow and without asking the party went back and killed them all ourselves. (Well, I mostly knocked them out--Corym has a thing about killing people unnecessarily--and I really wanted to date a Crinti lady back in town, so y'know)

So that won us a lot of notoriety, but then...

We knocked off the high priest of Cyric, I reclaimed elven lore from (robbed) a
human archmage, and we exposed a Zhentarim smuggling tunnel costing them LOTS of money since previously the Zhents had been operating openly.

Hill's Edge was good to us, but after those three things it was time to hit the road.

I say that these still impact and drive us for several reasons--we're unlikely to go back to Hill's Edge except to return Kora at this point.  When we wrote letters home, we did so obscuring our current location and current aims lest the Zhents intercept them and come find us.  So there is some anxious sense that our heroic reputation may follow us to the Dalelands and get us in trouble.

Re: OOC 4: Cut Off One Head...

We also formed a Company with rules (Blame the Lawful Characters for that, yes I'll take some responsibility there).  The Company has a base a short (hidden) distance from Baldurs Gate.  It's where the others Rescued Krackor.

We have Ale and a Brewer (Krackor) who'll, if ever get back, will be brewing the OLD (read as very old) recipe.

Or Qasida ... they are interchangeable.  Just didn't want to edit the post unnecessarily.

I always try to give my PC something relatively short for a name, since I and others will end up typing it a lot!  :)

Just a general note about Euin: the player has requested that the fact that he's a Harper remain a secret for now. He did not inform Kas and the tuneservants about being a Harper. I'm sure he'll inform the group eventually, but for the moment his guise is as a regular woodsman and warrior adventurer.

Cheers. Krackor will be watching the Euin and Qaida as he did the others that joined, a Harper Pin will be all the sign he needs but that'll be when he arranges the Watch for them both to be alone together.
Euin, it'll make sense eventually.

Bugger. I wrote something good on PC and thought I'd posted it, hopefully when back on it when I get up, it'll still be there. Please bear with me.

Ah, I did post it, it didn't show up on my mobile. No it didn't

Good luck, and stay safe!

My daughter's school district opted for a blended return ... two days a week of actual school (and every other Friday).  The rest will be online.  As parents, my wife and I aren't exactly looking forward to it.

Our girls are doing all-virtual, but I have to be up in my classroom and covert my lessons into Zoom modules. Having two toddler age boys on top is a big complication too
