Star Wars Idea

Now that I have one game up and running on rpol, I think I would like to start a second.

The concept I have is that the characters start off as Imperial forces who are trying to keep order on the more remote planets. Although Imperials, they do not like the direction the Emperor has taken with disbanding the senate.

They realize that they need to keep order on the planets they are protecting in order to keep them from gaining the Emperor's full attention. The last thing thing anyone wants is the Imperial Fleet stationed in this sector.

So although on the surface, they appear to be a Stormtrooper special forces type of unit, however they are still consider themselves the good guys.

Any idea if this would be a fun game for people? Any plot ideas that you think might be fun and exciting?

Also, what would be the best system to use for this? I am currently torn between WEG d6/Mini Six rules and the Star Wars Saga rule system.

Recently Arion Games published Stellar Adventures, that is another d6 ruleset, but there are already all the trappings for Sci-fi in general and Star Wars in particular, including what could be Force powers, weapons, vehicles, straships etc.
Maybe you want to have a look at it.

Personally I'd rather do d6 than d20.

D6.

Sure it doesn’t have the best setup for the Force but the Saga d20 just made it feel too...

FFG’s was better than Saga when it came to actual game time.  Felt less crunchy and more story.

WEG D6 is all I have.  An interesting viewpoint you have.

Yeah man, sounds great.

So we would not be obedient clones... but Imperial recruits?

For immersion sake it might be better to go with a unit of regulars, as opposed to stormtroopers. Stormtroopers go through some pretty effective conditioning and while it does fail, the odds of it failing for everyone in a single unit are pretty unlikely (think about it - in all of the movies we only ever see it happen once, and I can only think of one or two other stories where it's mentioned as occurring, and in one of those the guy is just sent back for conditioning). The regular army doesn't seem to go through nearly the same amount of conditioning.

TL;DR, what explosiveghast asked.

If people are worried about 'immersion" and the mental conditioning that Stormtroopers are supposed to go through (which wasn't a thing until Force Awakens), maybe go with Naval Officers, even Junior officers.  They'd all go through some conditioning (if this conditioning is a fact) but it wouldn't be as 'deep' since they'd have to keep flexibility of thought being officers.

This would also place the characters in a better position to make moral choices, how hard do we have the troopers to lean on people, how strictly do we enforcer Imperial laws, how roughly do we treat dissidents, etc.

[EDIT]
Especially if the characters are the buffer between the higher ranks and the Troopers on the street.

If they wanted to keep to the concept of Stormtroopers you also have the fact that after the first Death Star was destroyed a lot of trainees were pulled early from the various academies before their training was 'officially' complete to fill in for a Death Star worth of enlisted and officer corp being turned into space dust.

While rare for Stormtroopers to go AWOL it did happen both to Clones and later Conscripts and Volunteers.  With the game being tossed into a rim area it's easy enough to make that jump from unswerving loyalty to serving loyally by doing things better than the ignorant officers who don't care and then onward eventually to serving loyally means ridding the galaxy of the officers that are corrupt and bringing the Empire down by inciting the populace on purpose to salve some ego and instead cause a system to rebel and the Empire to scour it clean and loose the world from the Empire's roster of loyal subjects.

It's that slow slope that brings them around to the Empire being good but the Emperor and the cronies being bad for business...

Sounds interesting, and I'd be interested in giving it a shot, though I don't have any experience with the d6 system.

My single response is Giliad Paelleon. And heck yeah I would be down for this.
