Interest Check: Story-based Superheroes game, semi-system
Hey all,
I wondered, if I were to run a sort of slice-of-life college heroes sort of superhero game would people be in? The game itself would be freeform but I'm thinking I'd ask for Mutants and Masterminds 2nd ed character sheets. This would keep everyone balanced and level and people could cite their powers as necessary when it came to player conflicts or disagreements.
Essentially a power-balanced freeform game where when it came down to "Who's stronger" or "who's sneakier" or what-have-you, the sheets would be there to settle disputes. We wouldn't roll dice and the reference to the sheets would be minimal. But it would exist also to sort of keep people's powers on a level track. Because of course, every character would have the same number of points and thereby they'd all be more or less square.
It'd be a small group sort of thing. 4 or 5 players maybe. Adult for descriptive freedom and in case subplots get romantic but with a primary focus on forming a loose team and keeping the city/town safe as a combination of slice of life plot and metahuman plot unfolds.
I'd probably set it up so as to have a half-dozen archtypes and then accept one character for 5 different ones (which would be open to interpretation of course) so that each character more or less has a niche. Again, just thinking out loud.
Mostly I'm trying to harness all of the delectable structure of a system game without myself having to run a whole system game with initiative and powers and saves and grid spacing and range so that it can stay light and breezy. And also a small group game that has direct GM plot interface rather than a list of 27 location threads with 15 characters and no story.
