IC: a couple of Warhammer 40k ideas!

As it says on the tin!  Particularly, between my life becoming a hgell of a lot less hectic, and the setting getting some interesting new updates lately, my mind has begun to percolate.  So I have a couple of ideas and I'm curious about what may or may not interest anyone.

Idea 1: The Inquisition!  This would be an Ascension-level game with an Inquisitor and his/her retinue, set during the Indomitus Crusade.  In short: the Warp has gone and turned the grim dark future into the even grimmer, darker, more double-damned future, and the galaxy seems to hover on the brink of collective doom and damnation.  Among the forces trying to stem the tides are the Inquisition.  This would be an Ordo Malleus group tasked by Terra with reclaiming vital worlds from Chaos, or, if and only if all is well and truly lost beyond hope of redemption, ordering exterminatus.

Idea 2: Fun with Space Marines!  Set after the Indomitus Crusade, Roboute Guilliman has finally regained some measure of order for the imperium ,but he is not,/I> happy.  And unhappy Primarchs are a <I>very bad thing.  Judging that the imperium as a whole is sorely lacking in knowledgeable leadership, Guilliman has gathered a group of celebrated, seasoned Astartes veterans and given them one simple (don't they wish...) task: find his brother Primarchs and bring them back.  Their only rules of engagement?  Succeed or die trying.  Let nothing stand in their way until their mission is complete, as the fate of the imperium rests in the ceramite-clad hands.

The above two ideas would be run using the Dark Heresy and Deathwatch RPGs, respectively, both by Fantasy Flight Games.

Does either sound interesting to you?  Feel free to speak up and offer your interest, questions, and/or concerns!

I'd be interested in either, but I've never quite had the opportunity to play ascension and classic ordo malleus shenanigans from that lofty perspective would be pretty awesome.

I got an odd marine idea that I absolutely love. Got a couple others that could be fun. Ascension level sounds keen, but I would have to see the party balance first.

I am not up on Lore or Setting for 40K (though I have played two games that didn't really get off the ground), so would like to try my hand at it again, if a relative noob will be accepted.  I'd be happy with either idea.

Party balance is always going to be skewed in Ascension, no?

A thought would we be playing Primarius Marines or regular Space Marines? Doesn't make any difference to me just curious.

If we were to go ascension, then yeah, there's a definite chance that the party wouldn't be evenly balanced.  However, to some degree, it depends on what they need to be balanced at.  After all, a Vindicaire Assassin is a terrifying thing...which might not do a lick of good when the success of your mission depends entirely on diplomatic channels.  I'm a firm believer in giving everyone a chance to shine.

If we go Space Marines, I'd probably stick to regular Astartes, simply because I'm not quite sure how I'd tweak the existing system to simulate Primaris Marines.

I have a strong interest in the 40k systems. I have heard they make for great combat. The deathwatch game appealed a bit more to me but email me if you want a quick player.

I'd be a lot more up for Ascension than the Marine game, but I'd be very up for it!

Seems the vindicare gets a bad rap for being able to dodge small scale attacks really well, and pick off 1+ guy per turn in combat. Unlike the other careers, for that they trade away access to networks and influence-based resources that ascension characters use to resolve situations small arms fire can't handle alone.

Plus, primaris psykers are the real powerhouse. :)

I like psykers in Dark Heresy. Plenty of options. Not so much in RT or Deathwatch.

A Dark Heresy Ascension game now exists!

I'm currently still working on adding threads and putting up a bit of background, but the barest essentials are there to peek at.
