I'd be down to play although I prefer to play male characters.

That's fine. The all girl team was just an idea for a theme. Maybe all the heroes are the next generation of u and coming heroes. Do you have a suggestion for a theme for the group?

There are plenty of ways we could go with this. I prefer magical or tech type characters but I'm not opposed to any others.

Suggested themes:
Acolytes of the Sorcerer Supreme - protects the world from magical threats and ancient evil
Young Space Explorers (lost in space game) - an average field-trip casts a group of youngsters into deep space and they have to get home.
Magical 'girl'/Power rangers type game - aliens are invading and the teens are given powers to protect their world.
New Avengers - An aging hero recruits the next generation to defend the world.

I have never played M&M but I am very interested in learning the system.  I have an awesome idea for a character but whatever theme is chosen I am sure i can come up with some concept for it.

I like both the power rangers and new avengers ideas. Maybe something that combines the two?

Should the focus be more on science or magic, or maybe both are the same, Do werewolves and vampires exist? How long have Supers been around?

The players should be at least second or third generation (maybe since WWII) however the 'event' that caused the newest outbreak of heroes is relatively recent.

I'm interested too.

I like the generational idea - some of the team could be descendants of the original line-up.

Personally I'm not overly keen on vampires or werewolves.

I'd prefer science to magic, or a balance between the two.

I'd also vote for keeping the action on Earth and not worry about invasions from outer space.

I suggest a new universe just use the avengers as a model.

If its a supers game, I don't think there would be a problem with having magic as well as tech, just be consistent such as don't have a character that's an angel-type saying that there are no such things as half angles but also have a half-angle on the team.

You could say that the Heroes won and in time faded out because they defeated all the bad guys and the new young heroes have to be trained by a retired or last living heroes from the previous generation or so because of a new threat.

OK.

Magic and Tech both exist.

Heroes have been around since WWII, but have been rare.

A recent 'event' (artificially generated energy wave from space) has triggered an outbreak of Supers across the planet.

The adventures will take place on Earth (no wandering around the universe) but the heroes may have to deal with the occasional invasion threats from outer space or other dimensions.

What do you think about team Dynamics. Have a core team with others in reserve? Reserve members go on solo missions and team ups, while the core team goes on the main adventure. Reserve members can be swapped into the core team between missions?

Having a main team and then reserve, solo and team ups would mean running multiple games. It sounds cool if you're up to the challenge go for it. You could arrange these teams in order of their posting rates. The main team for regular steady posters. And the others for those who post a few times a week etc. Otherwise I would say just have one main team. The reserves would be the ones replacing players as they drop out of the game kind of thing.

Good point. I don't want to bite off more than I can handle. Probably start with a main team. Maybe run side missions as team ups and solos once the main team is established.

Yes yes yes. Idea:

If it's generation 3 of superheroes, it would be really interesting to have superpowers usually run in families. Something hereditary was the result of experiments during the war, whatever.

But this wave? They're different. They don't have legacies. They haven't been trained. There might even be some the military doesn't know about. They were accidents, and everyone is trying to be the one to decide what they'll mean to society.

I like how the older generation was hereditary and the new outbreaks are more random. Not to say that there aren't new heroes that aren't generational and have their parents powers.

One of the biggest problems the government is facing is that new Supers who haven't learned to control their powers cause havok when their powers activate.

Now people are pushing for mandatory registration so that control can be established over dangerous uncontrolled use of powers.

I didn't want to come off as being flippant....lol.  Any of the ides will work for me....:)

Superheroes that travel around Mexico as a travelling Luchador group, fighting the drug cartels?

How about heroes that specifically combat sex trafficking in eastern Europe or Asia?

A group of Supers wakes up in a detention facility with no idea how they got there, or who they are.  After they escape the place their try to figure out why they were imprisoned and what they used to be?

Heroes that constantly try to avoid taking up the responsibility of being a "hero" but are constantly thrown into situations in which they have to "do something".

A world where no super powers exist until "something" happens and people start getting powers.  The characters don't know what their powers are, spending time trying to figure out what they can do?

I don't really read comics all that much so these could be ideas that have already been used.  However, they are just some things that came to mind.

Just out of curiosity...

Most supers games I've seen tend to be in a relatively contemporary setting (20th century or later).

However, one of the more interesting supers games I have played was set a few hundred years ago, where the supers not only had to deal with the Bad Guys, but also had to be discreet enough that their powers did not attract undue attention from the Inquisition.

Would you have any interest in running a game with a less contemporary setting, such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel_1602 ?  :)

Re: Mutants and Masterminds (IC)

Instead of a Luchador group, I was thinking about running a game like Streetfighter, only with amped up powers.

The last scenario, where people have just started gaining super powers is sort of like what we have been discussing. Except that supers are not completely out of the blue. There have been a couple dozen active heroes before the event. What is new is that now there are a lot more supers roaming about.

As far as setting it in a different time. I considered setting it in the future, but for my first voyage running MnM online, I think I would prefer to star with the classics.

That actually sounds like a rather interesting idea, though it would lead to a less team-focused game in all likelihood.
