I've got a half baked idea bouncing around in my head for a Ars Magica 5e game that's a bit different.
Here are some bullet points:
- Set in Oxford, England in 1205.
- Winter Covenant: Griffin Hall
- Covenant is in a regio full of ancient buildings, mad wizards, and unknown threats
- PCs are between 8 and 14 years old.
- PCs are apprentices 1 or 2 years into training
- Houses are limited to Bonisagus, Criamon, Ex Miscellanea, Guernicus, Jerbiton, and Verditius
- I will pick your House with some input from the player
Griffin Hall was established in 820AD by a small group of Bonisagus and Jerbiton magi. They were joined by magi from Criamon, Diedne, Ex Miscellanea, Guernicus, and Verditius. The Covenant rose to power over the next century. The community of Oxford grew up around the Covenant with the Covenant serving as a center for art and scholarship.
At the start of the Schism War, a ritual was performed and the Griffin Hall regio was created. The Covenant vanished from the mortal world and faded from mortal memory. But memories of a center of art and scholarship remained and drove the eventual establishment of Oxford University.
For the past two centuries, Griffin Hall has slid from the height of its power to a shattered vestige of itself. From a height of thirty wizards and hundreds of covenfolk to eight wizards and about fifty covenfolk.
Within the regio, the light has faded away from the Hall. Ruins of wizard's towers hide in the forest and shadows.
Recently a final effort to save the Covenant was made. A number of potential apprentices were drawn into the regio. Those that survived to reach the hall became apprentices and the hope of a new Spring.
Note: This is something I
might run. I would want five or six players. And the pace would be on the slower side. I would be looking for two to three posts per week.
Also, reading over what I wrote above, it is coming off darker than intended. It is a Winter Covenant so it will start off a bit dark, but there is hope. There is a chance for a new Spring for Griffin Hall.
