I'll be honest, I never finished a single one of the video games, but I remember being impressed by the mercenary Ravens and the missions you'd take on. So knowledge of the series is not necessary. The game is just inspired by, not based on, the video game series.

This game would have you both building and piloting a giant robot on mercenary missions. You'd earn money and build points to improve your AC (the robot) after completing missions. Sometimes you might find a cutting edge piece of equipment from rival Ravens (the pilots) that you can install on your own AC. Other times you may find your equipment gets damaged and needs critical parts to repair.

The game would have some down time for team planning and pilot training, where the players could also upgrade their AC or train their own piloting skills.

The missions would be envoy escorts, envoy interceptions, base protection and base infiltration.

Some personal drama may occur for the PCs, like romance or political leverage, but those would be minor focuses at most.

As a closing note, I realize dX may not be the best system for this. I just don't feel like learning a new system to GM it. I want something simple, even if it's not the most elegant system.

It's actually a good system for what you intend. I assume this is less Robotech and more Battletech which is why you're not using BESM (which is also Tri-Stat)? I also assume the players would be part of a group and not gunning for each other?

Eh...it's got room for some personnel development, it's just more of a contingency if your AC gets trashed. The focus will be on the AC units though, as a rule of thumb.

As for gunning each other down. No, you'd be cooperative. There will be incentive for individual achievements, but on missions it's mostly going to be a team effort.

In training sequences, the players can enter a simulation with each other which will allow the winner to make an improvement on their AC. The loser won't lose anything, but they will also not gain anything. The exercise is primarily for testing capabilities of the AC with the minor incentive of a medal (a floating rank boon) and a minor improvement.

BESM could work, but I prefer an obscure 2e Revised which no one seems to have. dX is free, hence the choice.

Im super new to this roleplaying scene, but this sounds like it would be awesome. Like WyrmPuff said, Im also a sucker for Mecha themed things!

I'm curious as to how this would play out, color me interested. I'm a longtime fan of Armored Core, so this kind of thing is definitely up my alley theme-wise at least.

I don't know Tri Stat, but I do love giant robots...
