IC:  Warhammer 40 K

I'm considering running a Warhammer 40K game.  The game would be using the 1st edition of Dark Heresy, depending on interests, both Deathwatch, and Rogue Trader characters maybe optional but RT characters ships would be out of game for extended repairs.  Characters starting rank would be flexible based on character concept the campaign would be part PUC and part Apostacy Gambit.

I'm curious what you mean by PUC and Apostacy Gambit, as my knowledge of the setting is limited in some ways.

They are 2 suppliments for Dark Heresy PUC is Purge the Unclean,  a book with several scenarios.  Apostacy Gambit is a three book series campaign that is a very challenging.

I would be HIGHLY interested in running an RT character in a DH campaign. I believe most RT characters are considered 3rd Rank DH players but with all the supplements this point can be argued until Tau in the face. Rogue Trader ship out for repairs, fun to be had dirt side. Color me brightly interested. Good Luck Regardless MKelley on your game.

I'm very interested! I've not played too many of the Fantasy Flight 40k games but the idea of a crossover between the systems sounds fun. A Kill Marine would be interesting in DH.

Cross class games of that nature can be tricky, but are lots of fun when they work well. :)

The Deathwatch characters would be more a second character if desired.  Though handy in several parts of the scenario.  I could even go as far as to allow Only War Guard characters in liu of the guardsman character from DH.

Understandable, since a Kill Marine compared to a DH character is likely similar to a Dreadnaught vs a Space Marine. They are great tools to show up and annihilate a few enemies for the team but I can imagine the Kill Marine would one-up the party otherwise.

Making one for those scenes would be pretty cool too. Still very interested regardless. :)

Not to give anything away but what is the concept of the game? Exploration? Inquisition? Or just serving out maximum levels of damage par excellence as only the Imperium of Man can do so very righteously?

I would have to say Investigation 30 plus percent, combat 40 plus percent, exploration 15 to 20 percent.  The exploration is more of searching orinvestigations of known areas for the missing or forgotten truth rather then finding new territory.  Also much of the combat is more of the desperate "oh hell what did we get into" rather than neat preplanned engagements.  Including combat against enemies from....beyond.

Darn. Marines Errant sans warzone gear & deathwatch logistics support has been one of those 'maybe one day' ideas I've been sitting on for a long time.

Curse I've played both modules, they are lots of fun!

As a second word of warning we found the advancement rate a bit screwy between DH and RT running together. :)

I think the idea of everyone having a space marine for when they fit is a good thing, even with mostly playing a DH/RT character. :)

Are you thinking we'd have been together a while as a team?

As far as systems xp matching up.  They don't,  I know.  But it can still work, it is just a bit more complicated.  As far as the  cell knowing or havingreen together for some time, it is likely but some may have been together longer then other members. I'll leave it to the group to decide, if the group has it is not more then 5 years or so.

Personally I do not mind that the systems do not match up exactly XP wise, they are different games. It is a pain in the buttocks at times to mix and match but it really wasn't intended. And as with almost all role-play games there are ways to min/max characters to your hearts content if that is what you so wish. I myself would rather enjoy the role-playing aspect than create a character that is going to "deal the most damage" or level up the fastest.

Even within the systems if you are using different resource books you could essentially create a vastly different looking rank character with the same 1,500 xp. I have seen within RT especially with the proper characteristic requirements PC's create devastatingly powerful rank 1 characters.

A skilled GM and a group of players following the God Emperor and not the God of XP and starting wealth will figure it out. Role-play is fun right? No real winning correct?

Of course this is very easy to say on the PC side of the game master panel. And of course anyone playing a Space Marine is frakking going to be dangerous as heck, but I find overpowering PC's becomes quite boring, quite fast. Give me an Adept with an auto quill and some proper mates over Astartes armor any day.

Let the doubters eat grox cake MKelly we can still be a team even if the stats say naught.

Well take for example the sisters of battle.  The power level between the handbook and the Blood of Martyrs book is significant.

Would DH2 be open for consideration? I know of efforts to update RT & DW to homeworld/background/role/aptitudes.

I did consider DH 2.  Frankly I do not like the changes to well.  The 1st edition, has many options for character, now I must admit that the ex and level system is so messed up as to be moronic.  While that is fixed in 2nd edition,  I just do not like how the system is broken down.

With this many posts in the thread, it has become clear that there is definitely sufficient interest in this proposal to warrant creating a game.  Please save further discussion or questions for that game, created by MKelly, and linked to in the post immediately following this one.

Thank you.

Alright folks I've started a game thread.
link to another game

It is still a work in progress but we can start to get things sorted out.  If the link does not work the game is titled Dark Heresy The Emperor Protects.  In the sci-fi and fantasy catagories.
