IC: High fantasy endless dungeon with an underlying Story

I'm talking archmages, I'm talking chosen of the gods, legendary mythical fighters and rogues that will inspire stories for eons.

I'm talking about a dungeon that has established towns in chambers that contain acres of space, mushroom farmers in the dark, mad scientists that desperately apply their craft to try to reach the very ends of something that may not have it.

I'm suggesting a nexus of stories, where time must be carefully kept, because it's more of an illusion and all the more dangerous because of it. A place where myths may be in the  "yet to happen" and and superstition works every time, 60% percent of the time.

I'm unsure on the system, I'm sure pathfinder is pretty widespread, but I'm familiar with quite a few systems.

Sounds like it has potential, depending on system choice.

What seems like a good system? I'm honestly most familiar with cwod, but I'm honestly okay using rules as an anchor without settings getting in the way. Pathfinder is simple to use as well, but chargen can be lengthy.

Characters would start fairly powered-up either way.

I am always willing to learn a new system. One thing to consider though is the power level of the game. Would BESM work?

It does not bother me to learn a new system.

Yes, and no. It's the current run of those titles, vampire the requiem, promethean the created, Geist the sineaters, those written for the godmachine chronicle, where applicable.

Ah yes, you should just call that Chronicles of Darkness or NWoD then. CWoD is what people usually call Classic World of Darkness, which is the older games like Vampire the Masquerade and the like.

Eh, since when was Classic the current one, its called classic for a reason. Those are new world of darkness.

With the pretty extreme rules changes and the underlying metaphysical being somewhat fixed, along with the change of publisher, I think the 2nd editions/godmachine chronicle, et al, are sufficiently different that they need to be separated from NWOD.

Thats why second is called classic and third is called new.

Thanks for correcting me, but I think this is a conversation for a different thread.

Indeed, because why argue established convention? I am only bothering to chime in to retract my interest.

I would put Dungeons & Dragons (any version really) and Palladium Fantasy on the table as far as options for a game go.  Both are decent games that both allow for high fantasy.  Others as I think of them.

If the system is (x)WoD I will be withdrawing my interest.

I'd like to register an interest too (as long as it's not xWoD or Palladium: love both setting don't like the rules) Like Finlos says any D&D (including Pathfinder) is good.

I like DND/pathfinder, do we think spell slots? I personally think they add a level of stuff to keep track of that's unnecessary. Is it too OP to allow spellcasters to be limited by the inherent limitations of the spells, or are spell slots necessary?

Spell slots are definitely necessary in D&D and Pathfinder. They are what the balance of those classes is built around. D&D 5E does have somewhat simplified spell slots however, as does Shadow of the Demon Lord.

What Caesar said

Spell casters are already far and away the beat option at high level: by so much it's hard to express. Taking away their only limitation wouldn't be a good idea

I forgot about the AGE system which is reasonably simple, reasonably high fantasy, and readily available.

This is likely going to get a mixed reaction but Rolemaster is a solid system as well; however,  I readily admit it does weigh in on the more complex end of the scale.
