The core of my idea is basically a combination of the 4400 and Fallout 3's Mothership Zeta (something I figured out AFTER I started working through the idea).

For an unknown period, extraterrestrials have been abducting humans from Earth for study and experimentation. The characters will be some of the more successful experiments, now capable of things previously only on the pages of comic books and their accompanying movie franchises. After working their way out of the alien research vessel, the group will make their way to Earth where they will have to learn where they fit in the world while hiding from government agents and possibly aliens who will be searching for them. Core setting would be real word today, with no supers or knowledge about aliens.

The abducted humans have been in and out of cryonics, so can be from as far back as you want. Their memories will only be up until their abduction, so waking up in a sterile, alien lab will be quite a shock. I am planning on focusing on/enforcing temporal language difference (eg a 16th century English-speaker using thou instead of you, or not recognising most slang in use) and culture shock of finding yourself in the technological advanced year of 2016 (even for those from the 90s). For the characters who won't speak English, there are plenty of ways to learn it quickly via a newly enhanced intellect (but still won't be instant) or telepathic translation, but still needing to learn it.

This would be an adult Power Level 8 Mutant and Masterminds 2nd edition game. I have a few restrictions on certain messy powers, such as Mind/Emotion Control, Time Travel, X-Ray vision, and the like, and also anything too 'magical'. That being said I am willing to be fairly open otherwise as long as you can justify how your human body has been changed (or implanted) to be capable of such power, which I expect alien superscience will help explain.

Sounds like an interesting idea, I'd definitely give it a look.

Just as a suggestion, it might make it more accessible to use 3E, since there's a good, free online SRD for that edition. I'm good with either system, though.

I'd be very interested as well. I love the idea of 'any time' and 'you are a normal person' as well. I take it we could pick named historically interesting people as well?

Sounds really cool. How different is MnM2 from MnM3? Have never played the legacy versions.

I find that 3e is good for streamlined super hero fighting but 2e is a bit more crunchy and better for a more realistic game. 2e is much more like D&D 3.5 and other d20 games it is based on, whereas 3e is a refined 2e.

I suppose named historical people could be available, assuming disappearing from the face of the Earth fits their actual life.

The M&M3 streamlining is good, works well and I think is well done

M&M2 (I think) handles near human level characters a tiny bit better in exchange for a fantastically more complicated damage and healing system. A system so complicated that I so far haven't seen a single round of combat in which an error wasn't made by someone (and I've seen quite a few combat rounds now).

Both systems are 'OK' in my personal category of systems. Very much at the top end of heavy weight and complicated, but not so far as to be unplayable. Other people probably have different views

I want to put my name into the hat. I like the system of 2nd MnM better then 3rd.
What if any of the supplements would you be willing to allow?
Mecha and Manga, and the Wizard and Warrior books I feel would allow for a bit more personalization. With or without the supplements, I would still really enjoy playing.

Looks like enough interest to me! I'll get the game up in the next couple of days, weekend at the latest.

Regarding supplements, Mecha & Manga and Warriors & Warlocks would only be allowed on a case by case basis as I don't feel much of it is relevant to the game but feel free to try to convince my otherwise. Ultimate Power would be preferred to be used over the core mechanics.
