IC: Fantasy Dual Campaign? Cyberpunk? Or Stranger Things?

Three games that I'm curious about, and wondering if people would be interested in.

Fantasy Dual-Campaign: This is a game idea I've had rattling through my head for a while now. It's inspired by an old game called Nethergate which, while it has very much not aged well, has an intriguing concept. The point of the game was that it followed two campaigns, one with Celtic warriors doing their best to resist the Roman Empire through awakening ancient magics, and the other featuring Roman Legions trying to stop them. I would mkae a game with a similar concept, featuring characters on both sides of a serious conflict between a more 'civilized' society and a more 'barbaric' one. I have both 'high fantasy' and 'low fantasy' versions of the game, although neither would probably feature straight up PVP.

System: Not sure, although leaning towards free-form, Savage Worlds, Shadow of the Demon Lord, or possibly D&D 5E.

The Talent Pool: A dark, character driven game that takes place in a brutal cyberpunk world. The game would feature a group of characters who have lived various lives, but are now all recruited by different megacorporations. Augmented with bleeding edge technologies such as cybernetics, bio-alterations, and more, this game would feature the transformation of these people into powerful figures being sent on missions at the behest of the Shadowy Corporate Council.

System: Probably free-form since any system with the mechanical depth to represent the alterations would be very clunky to run on RPoL.

Stranger Things Inspired Game: Having recently finished the series, I figured that something in the vein of it (small town children exploring paranormal mysteries) would be a fun game. There are plenty of fun possibilities between the supernatural happenings, shadowy corporate/government agencies, and more to create a compelling plot. It would probably not use the setting or lore of the show however, since some more freedom would be fun to have. I would probably lean towards children characters, but might include/use adults or teens.

System: Probably free-form, but possibly Chronicles of Darkness

Are people interested in any of the concepts? I'll also hear any system suggestions or critiques/concerns you have with the ideas. I'm also happy to discuss any in more detail. Thanks for reading!

Ha ha. I can probably only run one of them at the moment with my current load of games however.

The Cyberpunk one sounds interesting to me.  I would suggest Cyberpunk 2020 (with minor tweaks).  Though there may be other systems that can handle the mechanics, CP2020, while clunky in parts, is easy enough to get to grips with, IMHO.

The Stranger Things inspired game.  As much buzz as the show got, I'm a bit surprised that there are not a bunch of these games across various forums.  As to system, I'd go with Chronicles of Darkness:Innocents or perhaps Gurps.

If I use a real system for the Cyberpunk one, it would probably be Savage Worlds since it's pretty light and gives me some breathing room. Although I was hoping for some possibly wild augmentations and the like, so I'd need to look into how to make that work, or to just give up and keep it pseudo-freeform so I don't need to worry about balancing and the like.

As for the Stranger Things one, I was probably going to keep it free-form, although Chronicles of Darkness:Innocents is an option as well. With a few of the concepts I had, I might keep it pseudo-freeform.

I've never really liked free-form as it often ends up being overboard.  Depending on what you mean by pseudo free-form that could work.

Well, I think that with child characters things would more or less automatically be rather limited. Basically there would still be skills and chance for failure, but the system would be lighter than a World of Darkness game. It would allow us to play without bogging the plot down in a lot of skill roles, ability advancements and the like. I know that free-form can get overboard sometimes, but I can make sure to stop that by establishing basic skillsets at the beginning of the game.

Speaking of the CoD: Innocents, has it been updated for the 2nd edition of Chronicles of Darkness? I'd probably be willing to move over to that system if more people want it that way, but I'm a tiny bit wary of it since I have some fun ideas for character generation and NPC relations that could infringe on the character generation stuff that's such a huge strength of that system.

I'm not sure there since I've only got a fair amount of OWoD stuff (1st ed) (which did get pretty bogged down) and then I've got Innocents which seemed better to me at least.  Something that I've done at times is to just make characters and not worry about the "points" as such, but still use the structure of whatever system I'm using.  That may give characters who are not even in "points" with each other, but then in real life, most people in a group are not even in capability with each other.

Also, you can have the structure of character generation and not worry about most skill rolls if you don't want to.  Simply use them when it's extremely important, especially from a dramatic standpoint.

But, I'll take a look at whatever you decide on, at least if it's the Stranger Things inspired game.

Work's getting worse again I'm sorry to say. I would not suggest holding your breath on these concepts just yet, although I do hope to run them soon enough. I am planning on setting up a few Solo RPs though, so if you're very interested in one of the concepts we can run it that way. Thanks to everyone for the feedback!

I wouldn't mind trying a solo campaign. I might even be able to offer something reciprocal.

I could handle that as a possibility, especially if it could develop into something for multiple players.

IC: Fantasy Dual Campaign? Cyberpunk? Or Stranger Things?

I would be interested in playing a kid in a horror-mystery game. I definitely approve of the decision to distance the game from Stranger Things as a specific setting. Running any long game based upon a show which is still being produced tends to beg for continuity problems. I would even drop the name, but I understand why it was used here as a description of the potential game's tone. If it were freeform, I could be ready to roleplay within minutes. If using any specific system, I will probably be requesting a pre-gen character.

Cyberpunk -- I don't know. I would have to give this one some thought. I do like the genre, but there are so many games which are very setting-specific that I don't have a character concept which isn't tied to a specific setting like Bladerunner, Shadowrun, or Bubblegum Crisis. I might just pass on this one.

Fantasy -- This could be interesting. I don't play enough games based upon actual historical settings. I would probably favor roleplaying Romans over Celts if it came down to that. Again, I would end up requesting a pre-gen character in any given system. Be aware that you will possibly get some people who are offended by any particular ethnic group being portrayed as the bad guys even in a fantasy context; this is the main reason why I never pursued by Mongol Horde vs Aztecs game concept.
