Survival Based game

So I'm thinking of running a game based explicitly on surviving, aka characters will be searching for food, water, shelter, etc.

I'll also likely add some form of environmental threat like zombies or mutants. But this wouldn't be your normal zombie survival game. The zombies would be a background threat, there to keep players from feeling to relaxed but not there to be the focus.

Think like day z, 7 days to die, rust, etc.

Players would craft gear and shelters, find supplies, food, water, equipment, etc.

You could be a bandit and kill others, or form groups and travel together.

System wise I'm open to suggestions but I'm thinking that this will have to be homebrew.

So, interest? If you are please state it clearly, as I know some ppl simply drop in To leave comments but aren't interested in joining.

Survival Based game

Possibly. I've been trying to hack Castle Falkenstein to be better for a more modern survival setting but motivation is sporadic. It would depend on how you do the system. I'm not a fan of invisible systems, or anything where the player's rolls are out of the player's hands for any reason (at least not where games that involve the possibility of death are concerned).

I will say however, that I am leaning toward yes because I like the idea of indie systems though.

Survival Based game

I'm currently doing a survival game with 5e rules. Use the Gritty Realism rest alternate and players will think twice before using abilities.

That aside, I think new World of Darkness would be great. It's simple and fits virtually anything.

Survival Based game

All Flesh Must Be Eaten actually has extensive scavenging and survival rules independent of the zombie rules.

All Flesh Must Be Eaten

Never played it, but I have a PDF of it scattered around somewhere on some removable storage. Would be interested, even if we scrape off the zombies.

Re: Survival Based game

I have a game up that could go that way if the players really wanted it to. >.>

Re: Survival Based game

One thing that comes to mind to ask is what is the style of zombie. There are a few rough types:

1) old school, slow an strong, never run, break walls

2) new school, usually slow but huge numbers,

3) fast school, can run for short distances

4) Daggerfall school, one zombie will knock you flying with a slap

Re: Survival Based game

To me I really don't care, since the focus isn't on the zombies but we could do like slow zombies during day, then they run at night and that's why players should find shelter or build shelter?

Re: Survival Based game

I'll toss in a note as interested in a AFMbE survival game.  I play 7 Days to Die and love it, would be neat to try to be a part of that in a rpg.
