I'm proposing a contemporary game where in players would play as characters in the italian mafia or those that are connected to the italian mafia in some way, such as extra muscle they hire or family members. The game would take place in NYC and feature fighting for control of the five boroughs on the city. The game will focus on the struggles of being a criminal in contemporary america trying to not only avoid death and imprisonment but also thrive. As a GM, I'll present a serious, gritty vision of the New York mafia scene.

With this rp, I'll hope to foster a environment which promotes good writing and being a team player and realism in game. A rules light home brew system will be in play. The mafia scene will be represented by two criminal families of my own creation which are under NPC control initially. Through in game action the players themselves can take over those families or attempt to create their own. Combat will be presented as quick, deadly and a very serious matter.

Interested in discussing methods and practices in such a game, yes.  Interested in playing, or in seeing a game advertised here, not so much.

If you are interested in running a Sopranos-style mafia game, setting and Mafia/Cosa Nostra history would be subjects with which you might need to become familiar.  Don't just confine yourself to NYC - get a broader view from which to run your rackets.

If the game is in a more modern setting, interactions with the Yakuza and/or the Russian Mobs might be worth incorporating.  (If you do this, please go beyond the stereotypical images of these organizations.  Your players will thank you.)

Even though the primary action takes place in NYC, there can be peripheral influences from other areas (Chicago, Vegas, New Orleans, L.A., Frisco, Mexican Drug Cartels, etc.) from time to time to help paint a more realistic backdrop.

From the point of view of the moderators here, figure out where you want to draw the line for Mature or Adult contents in your game.  That's really going to shape the parameters of the game from the outset.

I take it players would form up as members of a local Cosa Nostra cell, answering to a Lieutenant who, in turn, answers to a Capo of some kind?  Adversarial competition among players can become intense in such a setting (or is that what you want?)

Really doing such a setting justice would mean a lot of work unless you've already done it.

I was merely proposing such a game here not advertising. I'm already very familiar with the subjects. I'm not confining this game to NYC, I'm merely basing it in NYC, just like the Sopranos was based in New Jersey but not confined to New Jersey. I'm open to letting the players interact with the Yakuza or the Russian mob but I want to focus on the italian mafia for the start. There will be influencing from other parts of the criminal world outside of NYC present in the game. It's going to be a adult game. That's why I mentioned it in the title. The players will be able to have access to all sort of positions in their family. They won't be limited to being a single crew for a single capo.

I've decided there is sufficient interest, so I am going to go through with making the game.

I'd be interested as well.
