Noob GM looking to weave a classic Light Vs Dark tale

So, I'm open to system suggestions. I'm leaning rather towards freeform, bit I do rather enjoy systems like FAE that let you come up with stunts.

So, onto the story. My heart of late has been in turmoil, and I yearn for a clearer cut tale of Justice vs Injustice.

What I mean by that is, the Evil That Lurks does it in the open, unhidden and largely unhindered. I'd like for the details to be set out in game if it gets there, but the basic gist is that there is a terrible evil that through some machinations ended up dominating the PC's world. Whether it's an alien invasion, a terrible tyrant or just goons of the week.

The exact flavor is your guys to decide, so long as the heroes know exactly who their enemy is, and, preferably, how to try and combat it.

Any takers?

Maybe a dark singularity, in which intelligent machines have enslaved mankind for their own good.  The heroes would fight back with the help of dissident AIs.

Maybe! Sounds fun. We'll have to see what others think, though...(taps toes. Whistles. Plays solitaire.)

Depends, how long are you wanting to run it for? Could go all Legend of Zelda if you want.

Well, I'd be down to keep running it for as long as it lasts! Truth be told I have yet to be in a long lasting game here on rpol so, yeah I'd be ecstatic if we could get it running for longer than a month or two.

I do love Legend of Zelda^^ \

I feel like I should put this out there. I struggle with add and sometimes can't muster up the needed creativity to make a post... Sometimes, I find myself avoiding games I signed up for and then dropped out of, great games with fun characters, even... I am getting better at it, and I do promise that I won't be gone very long.

So, my posting schedule can be erratic. I might be able to consistently post for a week and vanish for a few days, or I might show up and get a bunch of posts done in a day and waste for a while.

If you're up for something really different, read The Book of The Dun Cow by Walter Wangerin, jr.  It's a classic tale of Good vs. Evil in the form of a barnyard tale:  A rooster and his flock take on a Cockatrice and his evil brood of Basilisks to determine the future of the barnyard.

It sounds goofy, I know, but the book had me turning pages, laughing one page and crying the next.  The author truly has the gift for telling a good story.  It might just give you some good ideas.

Good Luck, and Good Hunting,
D

I will have to check it out. So far my best inspiration comes from the Dreams I have had in the past. Never discount them, they helped lead me to rpol, build campaign settings and make new friends.

On the subject on hand. Lucid, just do it. What can you lose but your time?

So, you guys, Have you ever read the Pendragon series by DJ Machale?

for those who haven't, there's this guy called saint dane he is an interdimensional being called a traveler and he represents Corruption and Ego. He travels all over 'Halla'(the hub of all conscious intelligent life, which is spread across 7 worlds in various times. So, he represents the collective bad of intelligent life, and he goes around spreading his ideas of evil and corruption in the hopes to tip the scales of that 'territory' from overall good and ordered and harmonic to bad and chaotic and violent. He eventually picks up a follower.

I'll get to his main goal but I have to explain Halla first. So Halla is made up of all the good, creative and constructive ideas and intelligence in creation. So, these 'travelers' Are beings directly from and made up of this 'stuff' that halla is made of, so they are capable of changing form, turning into smoke, influencing people etc all at a cost, because halla has to be regenerated.

Whereas Saint Dane is building an Anti-Halla, a halla that is dark and twisted that thrives of chaos violence and negativity. So whenever He uses his powers, his Halla only grows bigger. So he goes around swaying peoples minds en mass getting them to do stupid shit like feed a huge megacorporation into a complete monopoly on one planet or get stuck in alternate reality on another planet etc.

The main characters of the book, bobby pendragon and his 9 friends, never really 'gets' it even after halla is explained t him. He keeps fighting saint dane on a physical level. When the real battle was on the metaphysical level, for ideas.

It might take me a while to get it running, but is this something anybody would be interested in?

Sounds really interesting, thanks ill have to check it out. It does sound goofy, but coming from me that's not a bad thing, lol. To be perfectly honest I'm rather looking for a story like that of fighting against Evil told in a lighthearted fashion.

In reply to Merevel (msg # 8):

Not a thing, that's what. Tell me, can you start a game without a system and add one in later? I'm Kinda thinking about building my own system, because while ive found a lot of things I liked about various systems I haven't found one that was just BAM.

I know a few people that are system builders, so I do not see why not. It is usually just easier to find a system that matches the tone and feel of your game.

As for the premise, I will give it a shot, it kinda makes me think of Tales of Zesteria. But on a more metaphorical level? I would have to play the game to see if I am right. The books do sound interesting.
