Star Trek: Fate

So, I'm hyped for all things Trek today. Star Trek Beyond opened this weekend. A new Star Trek RPG was announced. And the new CBS series name was finally revealed, Star Trek: Discovery.

I want to run a Star Trek game using either Fate Accelerated or the iteration of Fate Core seen in Atomic Robo. Even if the group decides on FAE, we will be using the brainstorming and invention rules from Atomic Robo.

I think the reboot / Kelvin timeline works great for gaming as the established canon is out the window, and it's a bit more action-oriented than TOS. But, this would still be recognizably Star Trek with moral dilemmas, teamwork, and diversity, and filled with campy, pulpy, fun, and funny adventures.

A new ship, a new crew, new worlds, and new civilizations.

Who's interested?

Me! Me! Me!

Don't know Fate, don't know Atomic Robo. Hope that's not going to be an issue, but I also don't want to take someone else's place. I've got enough games going that I won't be overly disappointed not to get into this game, though.

I'm interested, always. I only know FAE, though, and I'm not very experienced in yet.

I have no trouble teaching the system.

There's an SRD available for the system, and the basics are freely (and legally) available as PDFs, mobi, and ePub.

Star Trek: Fate

You've got my attention! I've played a fair share of Fate, including Accelerated and a single game of Atomic Robo. Never got the hang of the Brainstorm rules, but they seem easy enough.

I've been interested in hopping into a Star Trek game. What era of the Abrams continuity were you looking at? I know the assumption is roughly TOS era, TNG-era alternate timeline settings aren't unheard of.

I was thinking TOS era as that's the point of divergence and still mostly familiar. The further up the timeline things get the more different they'd likely be. To my mind at least. Familiar but not hampered by canon seems like a good starting point.

I am interested, especially if you would keep it rules lite with FATE Accelerated.

I am interested! And would be happy to use either iteration of the rules. This could be just the thing to help me learn FATE better.
