I'm game, a homebrew setting with psionics is best.

Maybe the best thing to do would be to start with a published module and just used psionic characters in it.
I.E. Sunless Citadel with psionics.

Darksun is -heavily- into psionics. As in, when it was first published during 2nd edition, every single character had at least a psionics wild talent.

I'd be game; but not sure about Dark Sun. It has a lot of other strange stuff there, like metal being exceedingly rare; Dragon-Kings and so on.

i might be game too.

you could use a traditional world with arcane and divine casters. all you have to do is put a different spin on it, like the psionics all come from a new kingdom and the traditional caster kingdoms are trying to wipe them out. or just have a psionics focused group doing typical stuff for adventuring groups.

you might also consider allowing pathfinder psionics classes to be backwards converted for bigger variety of classes, depending on how many players you want.

Well an all psionics group is a viable approach, even if there is no d12 hit die psionic classes. All you need to do is get a human psychic warrior or soulknife with the Psionic Fortified body feat and it is close.

As I put I would prefer an all picnics group.  I do like the idea of them being hunted because of their knowledge.

I also like the thought of just taking a lodule and reverting it to picnics.

I would enjoy a game based entirely around picnics. :D

There are some official WotC modules that employ psionics: Hasken's Manor and Manifesting are small but are based around psionics (albeit 3rd-edition psionics and so require just as much effort to adapt; I've run both of these). A few of the larger ones might have one psionic encounter.

To make adapting easier, you could take one based around creatures like mind flayers or aboleth that have psionic-statted counterparts. So you switch out the magical aboleth for a psionic aboleth (which I've done twice).

You could also switch out a goblin shaman for a blue (psionic goblin).

i usually prefer not level 1 just because your survival feels too controlled by luck of the dice roller. beyond that, it would depend on the game (setting, plot, leveling pace, etc).

i should add that depending on the game, 1st level can work too.

I'm in favour of level 1. So few games start (and keep running) at level 1, and it feels like a challenge. :)

Besides, it's easier to get familiar with the fewer class features, effects, and powers in a new subsystem.

I like level 1 start; or at least, very low level. Amp up experience gains at the start if you're worried about survival.

I would probably ramp up the xp at the start.

I hate that a lot of games don't last long.

Also I am thinking about starting in Skullport.

heavy in the FR lore? would knowledge of the setting be necessary for the player to feel comfortable?

Was also thinking if people wanted to use races with LA that they could but when xp was handed out they wouldn't get any till they were same level as the others.
As for knowing FR it is not required though most any knowledge can be found on wiki.

Could GM or play. Experienced in psionics, less so in Forgotten Realms (though I have some vague notions about it from skimming the books).

I'll suggest level 2 - it greatly reduces the chance of random death to 12/12 greataxe hit, while still being early enough to feel like level 1 (worrying about mundane items, carry weights, tiny power point pools and 1st level powers).

6 players sound good?

Level 2's good. It also permits LA +1 races and a little multiclassing.

The number of players will change as some inevitably disappear in the first few weeks, so you can take as many as you can handle. But 6 is a good starting size.

Actually, I think 6 is what you should aim for; so maybe 8 if you're anticipating drop-outs.

Alternately, go with 6 but keep a waiting list for those that miss the cut.

i would second willvr's suggestion. if you have someone drop after the char creation process, it can really stall things out if you have to search for a new player to fill their spot, and then do their creation, etc.
