IC: Powers and Perils

I'm wondering if there are enough people here that even know what Powers and Peril was to consider starting up a game?

I've tried to play it many times in the past, but the 80's typical character generation prevented me from playing more than 1 or 2 sessions.
It had interesting spell options, though.

I also googled it and I'd be willing to give it a shot. Are the rules available online? I'm always interested to try new systems.

There is a web site online, but the rules are less than complete, as I recall, and mixed in with an unpublished version 2 from the author. On the plus side, some Heroes magazines are also on the web site, which had some nice expansions from the author.

Warning for the new folks: it's not an uncomplicated game system.

For the folks that know what they are getting into: If there IS sufficient interest, I'd be reducing starting options to one civilized and one barbarian peoples (the Donarians and the barbarians they came from, I forget which tribe that was, off hand) and reducing social class and age options a bit, just to keep characters balanced with each other. All non human options (other than Alfar) would be open, as would all skill options, save, possibly, certain terrains of origin.

Basically, a New World colonization set up, with a hidden sea path known only to a few.

The limits are mainly because of the VERY wide spread in character starting ability and outfitting levels that are possible. It's hard to keep a player's interest of his character is underpowered and superfluous. And that CAN happen with character creation as written, if the dice are nice.

I love Powers and Perils! I used to play the heck out of this long ago. Sadly none of my current players are willing to give it a go. And, yes, I saw your message on the e-mail list.

I would be willing to give PnP a go on RPoL. What would you desired posting rate be?

Well, if we can get enough folks who know the game well enough to know what they're getting into regarding the complexity, I generally try to update  times a week: Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Barring holidays, of course.

The rules online are complete, and available both as text and PDF.  I use PDF in my iPad.

It would be best to have somebody help...some of the rules seem overwhelming at first, but they really aren't.

Oh, which version of the rules would you want to use? My personal preference is 1.2 plus the errata from the Book of Tables, but I can work with any version.

Anyway, I would play.  It's a great system, and can be easily modified/updated.  Always looking for new games of PnP

Definitely interested. I have ready about PBEM's for many years on the PnP list and would like to give it a try. I am very well versed in v1.0, 1.2 and 2.0 (Started playing v1.0 in 1986) so any would be fine.

OK, that's 3 that know what they're getting into. If we can get a fourth, I'll set up a page and get it started.

I would be interested in giving it a try.  I can remember seeing it for sale in the game stores I use to go to.  Back in the mid -'80's'.
But I never really looked into it.  I found this site that seems to have PDF's of 5 different versions of each of the 4 rules books that comes with the game.  As well as a PDF of the game's main campaign setting.  The Perilous Lands.

OK, folks, I got energetic.

The basics of the game are posted, including RTJ. I'll add to it as I have time and/or need.
