Interest Check: Warcraft; The Legends of the Past

Are there people interested in playing a Warcraft Play-by-Post/Forum Campaign?

I'd be up for DMing a Warcraft campaign in an Alternate Universe of Azeroth. It's gonna be alternate, because there are some plotholes in the lore that I'd have to cover and people will be angry if I do or I don't. So Alternate Universe it is. If it makes you happy, imagine that this is a different timeline that you could visit from the Caverns of Time, though some magic is going to function differently too.

Here are some adventure hooks which I would like people to consider:

- Racial Free-For-All in Lordaeron, Frozen Throne edition.
- Underground Night Elf society, Wolf Among Us-esque.
- Blood Elves Picking Sides, intrigue-heavy.
- Post-Mount Hyjal Kalimdor war fronts, classic adventure.
- Paladins Questing in Outland, classic adventure.
- The Bronze Dragonflight investigating the Exodar.

The systems that I will consider are Pathfinder, Warcraft 2nd ed and even something like Fate if people would prefer it. I'm not opposed to number-crunchy games, given that we have a lot more opportunity than around a tabletop to calculate things as well as fully articulate social interactions.

Other adventure hooks are appreciated, so please add them! What races would you be interested in playing? What location would you want to start in? What time period?

I'd be up for this. I am quite happy playing in most regions or timelines. Are you thinking single, multi or neutral affiliation. The earlier you set it, less classes will be available if we are following lore.

Interest Check: Warcraft; The Legends of the Past

In reply to HyrkanianBlade (msg # 4):

If I do the Third War, the main story probably takes place after the Battle of Mount Hyjal, while there are flash backs and introductions which set the stage for how life used to be before the devastating Third War occured.

In reply to dlantoub (msg # 3):

I'm glad to hear it, Dlan! You seem to be most familiar of all of us with the website, so if you stick around, I might need to refer to you for any web features I don't understand yet.

I've heard someone expressing interest in playing a Forsaken alchemist and someone expressing interest in playing a night elf. Now, I am interested in a mixed, but stable party. Some races just don't go together well in this time period without some stabilizing factor. So, if we're going to have a Forsaken and a Night Elf in the same party, a Blood Elf will have to be an intermediary to keep things from escalating between those two.

Before we go into what races are available, I have heard one person mention the Frozen Throne. Is everyone okay with this?

My response to this is best described as a solid maybe.

Your statement about wanting to pave over the plot holes of Warcraft is good, I'm not sure about the system we'll use though.

Feel free to think it through.

I'm glad you think so! Most of the changes are a bit subtle, others are not so much. For example, certain people might not be as treacherous as they are in the games. Certain mysteries will stay the same, others will have a very different outcome to them. Keeps people from meta-gaming.

For example, Dathrohan might not be impersonated by a Dreadlord, so don't go rummaging through his papers just because you know out of game that in Canon Warcraft, he got killed off and flesh-puppeteered by a demon.

Alectai:

Are you refering to Pathfinder or the World of Warcraft RPG in that case? Either can be changed if need be.

dlantoub:

Depends on what region we go for.

SETTING
Is everyone okay with a post-Mount Hyjal storyline set in Lordaeron?

In this scenario, the night elves have recently arrived on the shores of Lordaeron. Tyrande and Maiev are either about to or already have acquaintanced themselves with Prince Kael'thas, in their hunt for Illidan. Illidan's either already been wrested from or will have the Eye of Sargeras from him. Illidan may have already opened a portal to and from Outland or he may still be on Azeroth.

Meanwhile, the Knights of the Silver Hand are fighting back the Scourge. The Ashbringer is either still alive or freshly slain. Garithos still lives. Either the Forsaken are only just releasing themselves from the Scourge or are already in a full-blown rebellion.

Races that would be available:
- Human/Dwarf/Gnome
- Night Elf/Furbolg/Moonkin/Dryad (mandatory background; OR Tyrande's Faithful OR Malfurion's Faithful OR Maiev's Faithful OR Illidan's Faithful)
- High Elf (blood elf in name only yet)
- Orc/Ogre/Forest Troll
- Goblin
- Variety of Forsaken (affects the starting point of the campaign; the Eye of Sargeras has been activated)
- Draenei/Draenor Resident (affects the starting point of the campaign; Illidan is in Outland)
- Naga (affects the starting point of the campaign; the Eye of Sargeras has been destroyed)
- Kobold/Gnoll/Other

If you are unsatisfied with these options, tell me which option you would like to have. If your option is not available in this time period, we can look for a different time period.

Re: Interest Check: Warcraft; The Legends of the Past

I am interested in playing.  I think post Hyjal is the best time period, as it provides for the mixing of factions after the great battle.

I am good with the 2nd edition WoW RPG, and I am sure Pathfinder would work well enough if adapted.

I'm not at all familiar with the WoW RPG though, but i think Pathfinder can adequately cover all of the classses during this timeline, and even afterwards.

Re: Interest Check: Warcraft; The Legends of the Past

Alright, moderators are starting to enforce the forum rules. It's gonna be hard to decide what game people want to play if we don't have an idea of the kind of races will be relevant. However, I will try.

If I'm doing this correctly, please follow this link to the campaign;

Okay, this should lead you to the game menu.

If it doesn't, please tell me! I'm not used to this kind of infrastructure.
