Star Trek roleplaying

I am thinking about starting a Star Trek game set shortly after the original series. The characters would be the crew of a retrofitted destroyer, converted into a scout ship.

It would be set in a new region of space allowing for all new races.

Would anyone be interested in a game like this? What recommendations would you make?

As far as the system, I was considering Far Trek, Five Year Mission, or Barbarians of the Void, but again I am open to suggestions.

Far Trek is pretty groovy, as is the iteration of Where No Man Has Gone Before.

Are any of those systems freely available online?  If so, I'd be interested.

Might I also suggest Lasers & Feelings for the game system.  It's a really neat simple system that's free online.  I'm not sure how well it translates to a longer campaign structure, but it's worth a look.

I run a Star Trek game on another site, and I would strongly recommend Decipher's Star Trek RPG, which uses their CODA system. The mechanic is very similar to BotV (though with a variable TN instead of a static 9), and the game is geared specifically for the cinematic Star Trek universe.

Hi! I've done a lot of thinking on how to handle a Star Trek game, but my thoughts usually run more towards Next Generation era games. For those, I'd recommend a very gentle hack of the Leverage RPG from MWP. Just change the Roles to Departments and you're good to go.

While that might work for an Original Series era game, you may be better off using the Firefly rules. Unfortunately, that game might take a bit more work to hack, but not much. Just tweak the skills list a little and you should be more or less good to go.

The problem with those is that they aren't as free as Far Trek, Where No Man Has Gone Before, and Lasers & Feelings. Still, they're designed to run TV-style adventures in those styles pretty effectively.

I'd be interested if you decide to use the Far Trek rules!

Star Trek is always fun. But the fans seem decidedly split on systems. Especially on here.

I would be interested if it's something on the lighter side, say Far Trek or Lasers and Feelings.

Far Trek does look interesting as a system.

Far Trek it is. Give me a day or so to get the game set up and I will post an ad under 'players wanted'.
