IC: Revised Recon: LRRPs In 'Nam
I tried running a Recon game just over two years ago, but it died due to my inexperience with GMing games. Now that I've got a lot more under my belt, I'd like to try again. I'll try and keep this brief.
Here's the concept: The PCs are members of a LRRP (Long-Range Reconnaissance Patrol) team behind enemy lines in Vietnam, somewhere around 1970. The team will have limited access to support, and will be tasked with various objectives focused around harassing the VC (Viet Cong) and minor actions suitable to a guerilla force (recon, abducting a commander, Hunter-Killer actions, etc). The tasks will be randomly generated by me rolling on a table, as will the threats they face. A radio will be their only contact with other US Forces, and so will be quite valuable. Support can be called in via the radio, as can medivacs.
I do not like rail-roading players, nor forcing them to follow any particular story of my design. The plot will come from what the characters bring with them personality-wise, and what happens to them along the way. I won't be having the players relax at a US base in-between objectives. They will rest in the jungle, and await another command from some suit/commander far away from combat. I would like to limit the group at 6-8, but have no problem running multiple groups if there is enough interest. Death can come quick in this system, so the Munchkin play-style is discouraged.
As mentioned in the title of this IC, I would be using Revised Recon. As the rules may be hard to find, I have no problem explaining the rules and how to play the game to anyone. It is quite easy, and I always strive to make my games beginner-friendly.
I said I would try and keep this brief, yet I've typed three paragraphs. That seems to be a running theme with me. If my ramblings have made any sense, or if you are interested, let me know. I would love to get this game into existence.
