Once upon a time, there was a game called Chain of Being which was quite good but got very little attention.  The premise was that the old gods in this particular traditional fantasy world have been overthrown by a new group who are a lot less serious about... godding, or whatever it is they're supposed to be doing.  And as the gods have gotten more chaotic and ridiculous, so too has the world they govern.

Mechanically, the game is fairly crunchy but easy to learn; you could do well enough without the book.  And to add to the "don't need the book" part, I won't be using the default setting from the book (though I might still take pieces from it).  The premise will stay the same, but we'll create the setting together as we go.

So, anybody want to give this a try?

Actually, I've had the d20 version of that (and a module) since it came out, but never really tried to use it for much of anything. It did remind me somewhat of dear, stillborn FRUP though.

If you can cope with my ongoing real life problems disrupting my gaming every so often, I would express interest.

Fully understood about real life - as long as we're not talking "months at a time" it should be fine.

I vaguely remember reading the quick start version of the d20 rules.  They did an okay job trying to make it customizable while also catering to the d20 crowd, but their own Higher Arc system I think was a better fit overall.  That's what we'll be using here if the game gets going.
