Fate Core Lost Colony

I've had a storyline kicking around the back of my head for a couple of years.  Last year's TV show "Dark Matter" refreshed it for me a bit.

Synopsis:
In the future, criminals are "wiped" and given replacement personalities / skill sets, then sent off on deep-sleep colony ships to other worlds.  When they arrive, their skills are evenly matched to give them a great shot at colonization.

However, on this trip ... something goes wrong.  The criminals wake up as they enter the orbit if the target planet, but they don't have their replacement personalities ... or skills.

They must find a way first to avoid slamming into the planet and bursting into flames, then deal with what they find on the planet without their tailor-made skills.

One of the issues with Fate and PbP is the long wind-up before starting play.  I'd like the players to come into the game without knowing what their skills are (amnesia / wiped ala Dark Matter the TV show), and without knowing their personal histories.  They could discover both through play.

It fits well within the Fate Core quick character creation rules (p. 52).

I might give this a try.  Are you thinking we start with completely blank character sheets and fill them in as we go, or is there anything that we would already know at the start?

I was envisioning almost entirely blank, due to the amnesia.

It's a little weird with the high concept, though :)  If enough folks are interested, we can talk it through and see what folks think.

We would build our characters, and modify our high concept as we go along, right?

There would not be a preset character sheet that we would have to "discover".

I was thinking that the players would make decisions about their characters over time.

The hydroponics pod is busted, spewing Hydrazine into three decks.  Everyone's wrestling with the problem, and one guy finds he has aptitude with a wrench.  (And by finds I means makes a character decision and narrates it with some buy-in from the other players).

He magically has an aspect: It doesn't look pretty, but I got it fixed.

Fast-forward many game sessions to where the player discovers his real (criminal) background.  Perhaps his aspect changes a bit, or his high concept becomes "head mechanic for the Maldano family".

Or ... never discovers who he or she was.  They're just left with a blank slate and some muscle memory that biases them toward a profession on the colony.

Hey, this seems quite interesting. I am absolutely new to Fate but wanted to try the system. If you can have one more player and help me with the system, I very much want to join.
