DC Civil War (MHR System)

Hello,

Considering running a DC game using the Civil War event/campaign Marvel Heroic Roleplaying had, using that system as I found a fan made event book that has the Justice League and Teen Titans PC sheets as well as lots of Watcher(GM) DC characters.

Already have a player interested in taking on the role of Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) for the game.

Think it would be interesting to see who in the DCU would support the registration act and who would go 'rogue'. Seeing who chooses what side, how their related connections play into it.

Do the Amazons rally behind a Wonder Woman that is convinced by Steve Trevor that the registration act will protect the world of men?

If Hal Jordan, with his maverick nature, decided that the registration act was an overreach of Earth rules would the Guardians agree? Would they tell him to leave it alone and would he? How would the other Lanterns of Earth react to it? Would there be conflicts between them?

Does liberty influence Superman's descision? Or does justice?

Batman has long had plans to take down the Justice League if they ever turned criminal. Does he use this in support of the registration act or does he object to having to give up his secret identity to the government and rebel?

Would there be interest in a game like that?

DC Civil War (MHR System)

So what would the system be? And would we have to choose existing heroes?

DC Civil War (MHR System)

Haven't played any Marvel Heroic on here in a while, and I've only ever run DC-themed games, rather than playing in them.

Not sure who I'd play, though... there are a few possibilities, though.

I might be interested. But I'd want to know a bit about the tone you're going for first. Are you thinking more along the lines of the darker and grittier DC movies, or the lighter and funnier Marvel movies, or something else entirely?

DC Civil War (MHR System)

In reply to RavenEGB (msg # 2):

It will be using the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying system.

Yes, it would be canon heroes.

The tone would be along the lines of pre-new 52 DC comics with a bit of the more political Marvel Civil War era comics, due to the nature of the core argument having to do with the registration act. The heroes know each other, have existing friendships, but serious issues arise that the hero community may not all agree on.

Perhaps all the heroes must weigh the scales in terms of security or privacy. Ask themselves if they know better than the will of the country they have long protected.

It would definitely not be as dark and grim as the current DC movies, Superman would not be killing.

DC Civil War (MHR System)

I would consider it if the system would be something like GURPS or even HU.

DC Civil War (MHR System)

Since it's DC, why not simply use DC Adventures?
They have pretty much everyone stated

DC Civil War (MHR System)

I personally think MHR is a better system, and would love to play. I would be willing to play almost anyone. I hope you run it. The big thing with MHR is that it needs to have players post daily, or the game drags terribly. I think when MHR is done right you get the feeling that you can do anything that one of the heroes you want to play can do

DC Civil War (MHR System)

Most, if not all, superhero systems let you do anything you want, and pretty much every post-based game requires daily postings or it slows down to a crawl and people leave. I have seen this way too many times in way too many different systems to believe otherwise.

Sure... but the difference is normally in how much effort you need to put in for that result. Marvel Heroic is, in my experience, far more fluid about allowing characters of wildly different power levels, and allows stunts and creative use of powers with relatively little effort, compared to Mutants & Masterminds (which tends to slow things down with requirements like knowing how big/heavy/far things are, power points and alternate effects, and the general heaviness of the system overall).

I'm not interested unless this uses the Marvel Heroic rules - it's my go-to supers game, to the point where I don't care to go back to other supers games I've used in the past (such as Mutants & Masterminds).

Re: DC Civil War (MHR System)

Welp, I respectfully disagree and am in the exact opposite boat where it comes to my interest.
I also believe a systme that already has everyone involved stated would make things more simple.
It all rests in the potential GM's hands of course.

Re: DC Civil War (MHR System)

Morning. After watching the new movie(Civil War) it sounds interesting and i would be interested, though i know somewhat about DC i will not claim to know over much either and my knowledge of supers systems is not so great either.

Most of my knowledge is with the fantasy side but if your open to working with a new player then i could give it a try.

Re: DC Civil War (MHR System)

I suspect that Batman would be staunchly against any sort of government interference. I have no idea what Superman would do; he might go either way.

So much politics... it's going to be great. Please put me in!

Re: DC Civil War (MHR System)

It feels very much like the story line of Kingdom Come or Injustice (the comics for the game were so much better than the game), and may help give players ideas for how characters reacted to a similar set of events.

Re: DC Civil War (MHR System)

First, let me say thank you for the interest and the constructive criticism. I will be starting this game soon, it will be using the Marvel Heroic Roleplaying system.

I have started the game thread here:
