IC: Shadowrun

I have 5th edition & a character ready to go (assuming standard build rules are used).

5e is unanimous then. 5e it is.

Another question: where would you like it set? Seattle? Berlin? Somewhere else?

IC: Shadowrun

I'm good with where ever, Seattle, Berlin, Hong Kong, somewhere in the California Free State for instance. It can all work.

I got 5e, but I have never played SR. I'd like to try if you're up for a new player. My vote would be Detroit if I had one.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

5th Edition is fine.

Seattle or maybe London could be fun? Lol, Berlin or Hong Kong for fans of the video games recently would be interesting. =)

I'm a new SR ST. It would be hypocritical to turn down a new player.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

I'd be interested in learning SR 5th as well. Like OP, I've only ever played the video games and I'd love to take the leap into 'tabletop' format.

For those who have played both, how different is the tabletop version from the video games?

Re: IC: Shadowrun

I would LOVE to play somewhere other than Seattle, although I know the Seattle are pretty well because I live near there, every game I have played has been Seattle based.

In reply to PCO.Spvnky (msg # 17):

I was leaning away from Seattle just because of that. Not my experiences with it but I know a lot of people pretty much run Seattle exclusively. Seemed too easy of a choice honestly. Not a huge amount of room to do my own thing after 20 some odd years of development.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

I'd like lurker priviliges for the game, if possible.

In reply to mofo99 (msg # 16):

The difference between the SR:R games and 5th edition is very roughly like jumping from the 1980s to now.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

Shadowrun of any flavor always seems to be a favorite.  Also has a hard time getting up and continuing to go.

In reply to Novocrane (msg # 19):

That'd be fine.

But I wouldn't say that's true about the games. Returns and Dragonfall are based off of the newest edition of Shadowrun.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

In reply to deadmanshand (msg # 21):

Nah. Mechanically & setting-wise, it's 1e Shadowrun. Quickness is an attribute. That's 1e, not 5e.

Keytar-sized cyberdecks vs tablets or smaller. Home terminal or searching for a matrix access jack vs wireless anywhere. Strong magic divide between hermetic/shaman vs only aesthetic, summon options, and philosophical differences. 2050s vs 2070s.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

My personal preference is to play in Seattle. There's plenty of background fluff to play with, I'm not familiar with the place in RL and I guess I'm a bit of a traditionalist.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

I'd be interested.

Edition wise 5th would be my first choice as having them on PDF makes it easier to create, otherwise 4th as I have some PDF and the majority in hard copy.

As for location, what about somewhere like Denver as it being effectively a cold war city with the various nations and corps allows for a variety of options?

I'm interested, experience with playing and running games in 3e-5e (both online and in person), and am open to any setting.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

In reply to Novocrane (msg # 22):

I'm not sure we played the same games, Novocrane. The decks were small, the setting uses the newest stuff linking SR and Earthdawn, and there was little difference between magic styles save for aesthetics. I know they kept the original stats set up since that was the most iconic but otherwise it fits the newer stuff rather well.

But it's not really important to be honest.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

You're right, it's not important at all, but it sounds like you're conflating Boston Lockdown (Nordic Games) with Shadowrun Returns. (Harebrained Studios) I try hard to forget the former exists. ;)

Re: IC: Shadowrun

I had forgotten about what all has happened to Denver in SR, it is a pretty interesting city. Honestly besides the cities which are very heavily locked down or those which are mono-culture it is hard to go wrong. Some are just tougher to navigate, like Chicago, than others.

I haven't played Shadowrun Returns but didn't I here that mages only cast spells abd shamans only summon spirits? Those are pretty big differences mechanics wize. Nothing like the real game though.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

I figured there'd be a lot of interest here. Always is. I'm definitely always interested in being a player, too. I actually kinda like 3rd and 5th editions equally.

I've always wanted to play or run a game in Bug City (Chicago), but never really got one going.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

In reply to Novocrane (msg # 27):

I was actually more referring to Dragonfall - the far superior sequel to Shadowrun Returns.

@riki.joat - Ummm... the shamans can cast spells and the mages can learn to summon spirits. There is literally nothing preventing you from doing both. I'm currently playing an Adept who can cast hermetic spells and conjure spirits. No separation. It's a skilled based game. They let you build whatever you want.

Re: IC: Shadowrun

With this many posts in the thread, it should be obvious by now whether or not there is sufficient interest in this idea to warrant creating a game based upon it.  Please save all further discussion for that game, created by deadmanshand (should he decide to go ahead with it) and linked to in the post immediately following this one.

Thank you.
