IC: Forgotten Realms, exploration in uncharted lands
I've got a few ideas kickin' around in my noggin, one of which requires immensely more prep work than the others. I wanted to check if there was any interest for it.
The game would be set in Forgotten Realms, rules are undecided. The characters would be working for either a private group of investors or a government and are exploring Anchorome, the far western continent in Faerun. It is a largely untouched area for gameplay and offers an entirely fresh venue for players. The characters will arrive at a fort left behind by a previous expedition and expect to be greeted by those who stayed behind. Instead they find a ghost town and have to figure out what happened while surviving in a new land cut off from any hope for resupply of the rations they brought with them.
This idea is clearly influenced by the real life events that happened at the Roanoke Colony in Virginia in the late 16th century. The initial arc for this would be to uncover what happened here that drove away the colonists, and also to re-establish the presence of the Colony for future exploration. Long term goals of the game are... well, limitless. The characters can explore the local area and establish a stronger foothold. They could venture westward indefinitely. They could simply return to their port of origin!
Ideally this game would also have a rather diverse cast, with characters ranging from "adventuring parties" to characters who stay at the fort and fill more mundane roles, such as carpenters, farmers, and fishermen. A large number of player-types can join this game and fit in perfectly together, all relying on each other to grow strong. The rules of standard DnD are limiting when seeking to play a game like this, which is why the rules to be used are still undecided.
Anyway... is there any interest in people playing this game?
