Open-ended Dark Albion (LL or 5E, probably)?

I just picked up the system-neutral Dark Albion setting book and have become stimulated by its detail and creative potential.

A quick and dirty description of the setting (players would not be required to own this book, relevant setting info will be made available in the game) is that it is the War of the Roses by way of Warhammer Fantasy - a pseudo-historical gritty and grim low fantasy 15th-century England fraught with internal political intrigues, civil warfare, and an ever-present threat of corrupting Chaos.

The game would focus less on any prepared adventure as I would be playing off of the character creation to provide an immersive, realistic narrative that would allow them and their actions to interact with and impact the setting in an appreciable manner. There can be elements of sandbox gaming, social conflict, settlement management, dungeon-crawling, etc.

I would be most wanting to run this game using either a somewhat house-ruled Labyrinth Lord (for a grittier, more perilous style), or perhaps I can be swayed to using a somewhat house-ruled 5E (for a more heroic, high fantasy style).

I should note that there are aspects of classism, gender-restricted roles (although there are clever ways to work around them), and racism towards non-humans inherent in the setting, if that puts anyone off.

Are there any potential noblemen, yeomen, knights-errant, or Clerics of the Unconquered Sun out there interested and willing to brave the perils of Dark Albion and make their mark on the Rose War?

This sounds awesome. at least done retro. 5e would be okay too, I guess.

Yeah, I'm definitely leaning towards retro at the moment, but I figured I'd try and cast as wide a net as possible.

Sounds kinda cool. I'd be down if done in Retro.

I would be interested in this because I have heard good things about Dark Albion. However, have you considered using Fantastic Heroes and Witchery for it, as the game is by the same developer and the rules are available for free (low res version). In fact from what I read what crunch is in Dark Albion is statted for FH&W.

Dark Albion has a supplemental appendix for customizing Fantastic Heroes and Witchery to better fit the setting, but outside of that clearly-marked section, all of the information is system-neutral as long as you are sticking to something with OSR DNA (I imagine the setting would work very well for some d100 systems like Renaissance or BRP as well, if I was willing to put in the work to set everything up for it!).

I actually found the FH&W appendix to be pretty interesting, and it has prompted me to take some extra time and flip through that game as well - since I made the mistake of posting this IC around the holidays I imagine that I will have some time to take it under consideration before I start moving on this idea.

Thanks for the interest :)

Thanks for the reply; if you go with FH&W you can count me in as a player. Dungeon Crawl Classics might also work from what I have read of the setting, what with the grittiness and the influence of the fae and chaos.

Look forward to seeing how you proceed with this, if you do go ahead!
