Who is this Harry Potter of which you speak?

Baednook School of Whichcraft and Wizardry
Headmaster: Asbjorn Sabastian John Thomas Cobnest

Sitting in the lonely mountains, overlooking the North Sea, untouched by modern muggles is the squat form of Bedenook school.  The ancient building totters dangerously on the cliff, half hanging over the edge, crashing waves roaring at it as if waiting for it to fall into the maelstrom to be devoured. The school has been training young Witches and Wizards for almost 900 years. Built after the disasters of the Wizard-wars that rocked Europe at the end of the last millennia, Baednook was the work of four friends: Leon Leoclaw, Marenduke Malardbill, Ethelbert Eaglebeak and Wilheim Wolfensnout.  To this day, the authors of this institution of learning have a profound affect upon the students who come to study here.

When children arrive at Baednook, they are sorted into houses based on Family ties - siblings are placed in the same house, while cousins are usually kept apart as far as such things will allow. This process was instituted by Marenduke Malardbill himself in order to prevent a schism between the Houses. Sadly, after nearly 900 years, such a schism is on the cusp of being realised. The houses are named after the four founders of the school: House Leoclaw, House Eaglebeak, House Malardbill and House Wolfensnout.

Baednook does not sit alone in the world, however. It is the national school for England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, all of whom are cared for and administered to by the Ministry for Magic, based in London. The Ministry has finally ushered in an age where fear is not the only thing a wizard need feel: the defeat of the Dark Queen who tried to usurp control of the Ministry for herself and her Praetorians is presumed dead after a magical duel between herself and Professor Cobnest, Headmaster of Baednook.

If this sounds a lot like Harry Potter, that is intentional. I am looking for advice, and some interest if there is any, in a game of Broomstix (the Harry Potter RPG) but using Harry Potter as the main inspiration.  The reason for the departure from the Cannon is largely because there has been so much revealed about Hogwarts and the main characters, it is difficult to add anything truly new to the setting.  This way, at least, everything is fresh and new - even is it is instantly recognisable.

I will also be modifying the rules a little, changing some of the advanced skills and adding some more 'Unique Situations' to act like Campaign Traits from Pathfinder (Basically ties to the metaplot that will get players involved in it pretty easily).

For the feel of the game, I'd like to go a little Grim-dark, but still suitable for the under-age protagonists.

So, any interest?

This sounds quite cool. I'd never seen the system before your post. I just looked at it quickly, and it seems fairly elegant - simple yet still thorough enough to get a lot of variation/flexibility. There is a little lack of clarity differentiating skills/specialties and just what exactly a specialty is. But overall it seems pretty cool and definitely geared toward the flavor of the books.

So, yes, definitely interested.

It sounds awesome. I love Harry Potter, and I love Grimm. I would have to learn the system, but to join a game like this I would totally be willing.

Essentially, the system is a process of adding bonuses and penalties to a single d20 roll that will determine the threshold of success. It is rather light, so I am in the process of adding a little more definition to it for play.  Callen is correct in their assessment of a lack of clarity, which is something I am trying to put right.  So the system is less 'Broomstix' as 'Advanced Broomstix'.  Thank you Gary Gryax for the naming convention!
