IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

I am wanting to run a game that isn't one of my speculative RnR games.

So I thought I'd see who'd like to run PF but with several modifications.

I have altered the magic system into a very flexible spellpoint and easy metamagic system that requires spellcraft checks to cast spells.

I altered health and dying rules.

Save or die spells deal ability damage instead (I.E. death effects deal con damage.)

And I will roll for players for perception, knowledge, sense motive, etc.

Post rate will be slow, one post per one or two days as a minimum. I will usually post daily, and more often on weekend nights.

Also, starting at level 4.

If anyone finds this intriguing, I'll post the full set of homebrew rules here.

---
I'll be using a few old modules adapted to my sphereworld setting.

Out of time, I'll post more about setting later.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

Okay, setting and game.

The setting is a world where the sky has no stars and the sun burns bright then dims in a month long cycle, but every race has stories of coming from another world where this was not the case. Some rocks float, and can even make floating islands, which are notoriously unstable and prone to flipping over or breaking apart.

There is a vast empire recovering from a civil war. The heart of the empire now lies in ruins, a wasteland filled with taint, radiation, monsters, and mutants of every kind, yet also home to the best of the empire's technology and wealth.

There are elves, gnomes, dwarves, humans, halflings, drow, duerger, about as many homebrew races, and if you're lucky kobalds (which are not yet well known).

There is mana based technology, including radios, lights, even the occasional computer like device. There are even very rare airships.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

My hope is that a mod of PF will be more popular than a completely new system, but it isn't looking promising.

The slow posting rate and rule modifications are a killer in an RPoL environments. No one wants to learn a system if a game is likely to die.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

I find low player numbers tend to be the big killer, but I guess all that stuff you mentioned makes for a nonstarter. Dissappointing really. Thanks for the feedback. XD

D20 doesn't do what I need, nor does any other system I know of.

Maybe I should ask for a group first, get them chatting and invested, then soring the system on them. Think it'll work? :)

If you decide to run a standard adventure path Pathfinder games, you are guarantied a dozen people requesting to join. Homebrew setting will get a decent number as long as you explain your setting well enough. Slow posting in itself is not a big problem, but will knock out people. House rulings minor stuff is acceptable.

You got the all three. You are asking players to but into a unique setting, with proprietary rules, and a high likelyhood that the game will die. It's like asking people to buy a Betamax running on 220 current, and promising to give thema decent movie in about a year or two.

Most people here look first at rules, then setting, then posting rate as criteria.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

It's also that it appears from that initial post, you're not just houseruling minor stuff. All those three can even work together; but I think major houserulings is the biggest turn-off. At least it is for me. Houserules that I can fairly easily remember, or are really only important during character creation? No problem. But if it's ones where before I do any kind of post I'll need to doublecheck; are an issue.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

I had hoped houserules would be better than an entire home system. Guess not.

The offer stands for now, unless I find something better.

There isn't much checking you'd need to do before posting. Most of the rules are either from Unearthed Arcana or The Alexandrian.

Oh well.

Unfortunately I don't have any APs (well, I have the Witchfire Trilogy, but not Iron Kingdoms.). I'm also not much of a fan of the Pathfinder setting.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

I'm taking notice of another IC thread which was a complete homebrew both system and setting (post rate was unmentioned). It quickly got a fair bit of interest, so I'm guessing my pitch just sucks that bad.

Any help improving my pitch would be appreciated.

Re: IC Modified Pathfinder in Homebrew Setting

If it's the one I'm thinking of, they have a major advantage, in that their setting is one people generally want to get behind.

The interest still lags behind the more popular published systems though.
