Steampunk Three Musketeers

Keep your eyes open for this on in the coming months.

In Nouveau Paris, La Guilde Rouge has taken control of the fantastic new force of steam-power. The King has given them vast authority over all technological production. The Church is struggling to keep its influence. The city is being divided according to who has access to the new technology.

Players will take on the roles of Vaperateurs, the kings' elite agents and guardians. You will investigate plots, unwind secrets, and preserve order wherever you can. Use your wits, your steel, and a variety of gadgets to fend off His Majesties' enemies.

Nouveau Paris is not a place for the idle-headed. It seems that everyone here has a story they're not telling. Whether in the ancient towers of the old nobility, the twisting & filthy streets of the underclass, the gleaming pipe-bedecked factories of La Guilde, or even the fleets of airships overhead, nothing is simple or straightforward.

An adventure in intrigue and action in a steampunk world.

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

I am going to modify the Fudge rules for steampunk France. And I'm working on a system of 'alignments' called Valour, Vapour, and Vitriol.

Valour represents your courage, honour, dignity, and your ability in a stand-up fight.
Vapour refers to your knowledge of the new-fangled gadgets and devices.
Vitriol is your ability to confound, decieve, sneak, and perceive subtlety used against you.

The effect will be a bit like Force dice or FATE points, but only applied to the specific area. Can you afford to ignore traditional chivalric courage in the name of steam-powered tools? Will your cunning duplicity stand up to someone elses' strength of character?

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

The fact that you have a system is interesting to me. I have Fate Core though, so I may need to be pointed in the direction of the specific book.

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

It reminds me of the movie "The Musketeer" which, while it might not have been the greatest rendition, was still a fun proto-steampunk vibe (without all the grime of Victorian England).

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

I am so down for this. Like the posters above, any rulebooks/sources in particular I should look up? I'm familiar with Fate Core and I got the Fudge SRD, but I just want to make sure.

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

Like all FATE games, this one will be customized according to the interests of the players & the GM. After we start, we will see what people want to do:
a game about combat & swashbuckling, with plenty of room for derring-do and comedic fun? Gritty, street level skirmishes with the players barely hanging on in a tense world? A game focused on intelligence and intrigue, where cleverness and guile is key and disagreements are as likely to be settled in a boudoir or a smoking room as on a duelling ground?

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

I favor a mix myself, but if it's Three Musketeers or anything like it, Swashbuckling is appropriate.

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

Does anyone have any suggestions for other RPG systems that we could use? I'm looking for a game system that already contains steampunk elements.

Re: Steampunk Three Musketeers

None that are as rules lite as FATE. There are a few generic systems that patchwork a little bit into just about everything, and there's several 'rules lite' systems that favor action over realism in a way that's conducive to swashing of buckles.

GURPS, Wuxia, The Window...

Also of note, Fantasy AGE has blackpowder weapons, but doesn't exhibit any particular flavor.
