IC - Muskets and Sorcery (Pathfinder)

The Duchy of Cornal has recently declared its independence, but it is beset by numerous problems internal and external. The Duke decides to form a troubleshooter military force to deal with some of more thorny issues.

The PCs would constitute a military squad in uniform sent to deal with things under an independent command.

I am going for the 18th century feel with magic in general. Something like the Terrarch Chronicles by William King. Firearms as simple weapons (early firearms and ammunition are bought or crafted for 10% of the cost).

Equipment, races and classes would be limited to keep within the flavor of the campaign. Starting level would be 2.

Would like to have at least 6 people interested.

What kind of race and class restrictions are you thinking?

In reply to LandWalker (msg # 4):

Race wise, I am thinking medium sized and limiting RP to 14 or less.

For classes, Gunslinger and all Archtypes which use Grit are out for sure. Psionics are out since I do not want to deal with it. The rest of Core and Base classes are ok, although if they have pets or do not have access to all Simple weapons there would be an issue to resolve. I would consider other classes on a case by case basis.

Re: IC - Muskets and Sorcery (Pathfinder)

Why would Gunslingers be out in a high-guns game?

I do not like the class mechanics and I do not think it is needed.

Re: IC - Muskets and Sorcery (Pathfinder)

Having just read the back cover blurb of the first novel of the series mentioned, it sounds like a solid concept with a lot of potential.  Sort of in the same general bailiwick as Seventh Sea, which was always a fun time.

Sounds interesting. My concern is there is no mechanic to deal with misfires without using gunslingers and/or grit. Would Amateur Gunslinger be possible with the Quick Clear Deed? Even is you don't want to deal with grit, it allows the ability to "as a standard action, the gunslinger can remove the broken condition from a single firearm she is currently wielding, as long as that condition was gained by a firearm misfire" as long as you "at least 1 grit point".

Or do you have a method already figured out for misfire recovery?

In reply to elecgraystone (msg # 10):

I do not think I need to do anything about it. If your weapon is broken, you can either fix it with the Gunsmith feat, or get a new weapon issued to you.

Restoring a Broken Firearm: Each day, with an hour’s worth of work, you can use this feat to repair a single firearm with the broken condition. You can take time during a rest period to restore a broken firearm with this feat.

Early firearms are unreliable, just a fact of life.
