Axis and Allies

So, I love Axis and Allies. However, being that it is an incredibly time consuming game and I have a busy schedule like everyone else I know, my friends and I never get to play. Then I had the wonderful idea of starting a game on RPOL using one of the Axis and Allies editions(probably would start with 1941, though it is rather simplistic I'm not sure how I would run it yet and I already own the game and would be able to post pics of the board to help visuakize the game and territories each player owned).

So, what you guys think? Aye or nay? Tips, suggestions, etc? I'm particularly concerned about the issue of the map.

Re: Axis and Allies

If you can post pictures of the board then all you would need is to Photoshop what units and how many are in each territory on the map or have a thread that list the same details. I would be interest even if its just 1v1 ( one player is the axis the other is the allies).

Re: Axis and Allies

I've played Diplomacy here, I've never played AA anywhere, not even in RL. I gather it's similar to Diplomacy, but adds the complexity of different unit strengths.

I'd like to dip my toe in the water and learn the game, but my main concern with joining would be the time it takes.

I've both played and GMed Diplomacy. I (and my GM before me) used MSPaint to create the map and to alter it between turns. It was much simpler than Photoshop. I found the map to be less of a challenge than checking out all the moves for validity, that was the real PITA for me. GMing is not something I'd tackle again during a busy RL spell.

If you want any help that I'm not allowed to post here, such as links to examples, rmail me.

Re: Axis and Allies

Look up "Triple A" on google.  It's open source.  Has tons of options for this sort of thing.  You could readily pull the various digital maps in all of their zoomed-in, zoomed-out splendor.

Re: Axis and Allies

Triple A looks great! If I end up running a game I will contact you all and post it here. Still looking at my schedule to see if I can run another game.
