DnD 5e: High Levels
Most of the DnD 5e games (including my own) start at low level. I'd like to change that up, by running a game starting at much higher level...maybe around 17 or 18, so there's still room for progression.
A few things to note:
-I wouldn't intend for it to be a long-running game. It would be a way to jump to the highest levels and the epic parts of a great adventure.
-It would likely be rather challenging: from the start, you'll be facing off against the fiercest enemies DnD has to offer.
-While the intent is to see what high level play looks like, it wouldn't just be all about combat. There would be a fair bit of roleplay and character development involved, to dive into the story about great, epic heroes who are already legends.
-I'd like for the characters to have all worked together before, having advanced from low-level adventures. To that effect, I might be using modified bits of Fate's character creation rules to establish bonds and links between characters. I would be very flexible with this, and allow characters a lot of freedom to establish their individual accomplishments and backstory, to establish how they became great heroes.
-As a group, we'd come up with 4 or 5 grand adventures the group had already been on, to serve as the party's collective backstory.
-I would be using the higher level starting equipment table on page 38 of the DM's Guide as a guide for starting magic items, but all magic items would require my approval.
-Setting would be generic high fantasy, with the details of the setting fleshed out by the collective group backstory.
